The Post-Closing Underwriter is highly detail-oriented and will perform in-depth residential underwriting analysis on loans post-closing, ensuring creditworthiness and marketability. The role involves reviewing complex mortgages, particularly self-employed borrowers, and identifying credit deficiencies, errors, and potential fraud. The Post-Closing Underwriter will consult with stakeholders, recommend corrective actions, and ensure compliance with investor guidelines and corporate policies. Additionally, they will assist mortgage production staff on lending policies and procedures. The ideal candidate can work independently, manage multiple priorities, and collaborate effectively across departments.


Responsibilities:

  • Review loan files for data integrity and underwriting thoroughness.
  • Identify and analyze a sample of loans for post-closing quality control review to ensure critical data is evaluated according to company standards.
  • Provide reports on loan analysis, data integrity, and overall loan quality.
  • Reconcile closing conditions have been met; identify potential investor defects and clear them to ensure salability of the loan.
  • Prepare repurchase/rebuttal letter to investors as needed.
  • Utilize internal and external reports to identify quality-related trends.
  • Analyzes data and assists [VP, Quality Assurance] in production of scheduled reports and effectively communicates autonomously and concisely with business partners regarding the testing results and strength of controls.
  • Attends regular meetings with peers and manager to review findings, discusses and agrees on procedures and arrives at mutually agreed upon recommendations that will result in best practices within the production area.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Essential Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements (RESPA, TILA, etc.)

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
  • 5 + years of mortgage related experience
  • 3 + years of loan due diligence experience
  • Strong organization and analytical skills with attention to detail
  • Possess a thorough understanding of loan processing and closing procedures
  • Excellent communication and time management skills
  • Ability to be cross trained and handle multiple functions outside of normal job responsibilities and/or assist team members with other administrative tasks as needed
  • Present self in professional manner and have ability to interact with all levels of organization and outside contacts
  • Proficient in MS Office including Word and Excel
  • Encompass knowledge preferred
  • Fosters respect in the workplace
