The Kleen Lab is inviting applications from highly motivated and creative people who are interested in applying cutting edge approaches to exciting questions in neuroscience and neurostimulation.
Overview
● The central project will 1) apply cutting edge signal processing and computational neuroscience techniques to analyze data recorded from hundreds of locations directly in the brain, and 2) use brain stimulation to understand the mechanisms of memory function, and how epilepsy affects these functions.
● Our lab uses a special source of data - human intracranial recordings - to study fundamental questions in memory neuroscience as well as questions related to neurological conditions (epilepsy, dementia).
● You will work closely with, and get personalized mentorship from, the physician-scientist principal investigator and the rest of the talented Kleen Lab team. You will gain experience in project leadership and running a productive research lab.
● You will help study how memory and cognition are disrupted in neurological conditions including our incredible and inspiring patients.
● Our close collaborations with pioneering leading scientists here at UCSF and other institutions provide a phenomenal intellectual environment with unique and massive neural datasets, allowing us to ask and answer questions that often haven’t been possible before.
Required Qualifications
● PhD in a field related to neuroscience, engineering, or computational biology.
● Highly skilled in programming in MATLAB or Python
● Experience with signal processing (for example, experience with Fourier and wavelet transforms/analysis)
● Enthusiasm, adaptability, reliability, and ability to work and interact positively with people of all types from diverse backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications:
● Experience in statistics and/or machine learning
Environment: The UCSF Medical Center is strategically located in one of the most incredible cities and most innovative metro regions in the world (San Francisco/Bay Area). Our departments of Neurology and Neurosurgery are rated among the very top in the nation, according to the most recent U.S. News & World Report. The UCSF Epilepsy Center is the highest volume epilepsy surgery center on the West Coast. The unique datasets and opportunities of this institution are unparalleled.
