Description

The Social Work Department at Azusa Pacific University seeks to prepare students for professional social work practice as demonstrated by competence in skill performance with diverse populations in a variety of settings. As a mid-sized thriving department, emphasis is on engagement with students that integrates high expectations with high support for academic success. Training focuses on a holistic approach to professional development with a goal to prepare effective generalist and advanced social work practitioners. The internship program is a collaboration between community-based agencies and the university, providing sites where students can integrate the knowledge and skills learned in the classroom into professional settings.

MSW Program options include full-time, part-time, and advanced standing options. Teaching may include foundation and/or specialization level courses. Specialized practice options include The Community Leadership and Program Administration specialization prepares students for macro practice in local, national, and international contexts. The Clinical Practice with Individuals and Families specialization prepares students for a range of clinically-oriented practice settings.

We are currently seeking candidates to support the LADCFS + UCLA Academy of Workforce Excellence child welfare practicum education stipend program at our Azusa Campus, with experience in social work supervision, training, teaching, and program administration. The DCFS Practicum Liaison coordinator will report to the MSW Director of Practicum Education, with consultation and oversight of the Social Work Department Chair (Principle Investigator) and is responsible for teaching a child welfare practicum seminar, practicum liaison activities for the child welfare stipend program and other students, conducting evaluation of students, practicum instructors, and program outcomes, liaise with DCFS and university partners, ensuring compliance with DCFS contract, providing supplemental instructional support and curriculum development, and coordinating with MSW faculty regarding training needs and support of child welfare content.

LADCFS + UCLA Academy of Workforce Excellence is a partnership between social work schools in Los Angeles County and the Department of Children and Family Services. Funded by federal Title IV-E grants, stipends and training are provided to MSW students in exchange for a two-year commitment to work in LA County DCFS.

Position contingent on final funding by LADCFS + UCLA Academy of Workforce Excellence.

Description: Twelve month, part-time faculty position in a thriving, urban, CSWE accredited, Master of Social Work program. Experience in higher education is preferred, with familiarity in MSW education strongly desirable.

Specialization: Clinical specialization, child welfare focus

Responsibilities

  • Teach child welfare practicum seminar and other courses in area of expertise.
  • Liaison with student practicum internship sites.
  • Participate and assist in development and facilitation of training/activities for the DCFS internship program and community partners.
  • Work with the MSW Director of Practicum Education and collaboratively with other practicum members, assist in student placement, practicum administration, site supervision, student supervision, and development of practicum sites.
  • Participation in the life of the department as well as the university is required.
  • Contribute to development and dissemination of knowledge and expertise.

Level: Assistant Professor, clinical faculty

Qualifications: Master’s degree in Social Work from an accredited social work program, two years post MSW practice experience, with a minimum of five years of child and family experience, and two years of experience as an agency practicum instructor/supervisor. Administrative or program development experience strongly desired. An LCSW, experience in child welfare, and presentation/workshop training/teaching experience strongly preferred. Candidates must be able to communicate their Christian faith and how they ethically integrate faith in social work scholarship and practice. Proficiency in various technology platforms strongly preferred.

Experience: Strong teaching skills, experience in the area of child welfare, supervision, and program development.

Workload: Twelve-month, half-time contract, non-renewable.

Compensation

$33,280 to $41,500 is the annual salary for this role and reflects what Azusa Pacific University reasonably expects to pay for this position. Actual compensation may vary based on the qualifications, experience, and internal equity. In addition to compensation, APU offers a competitive benefits package.
