Designer Molecules Inc. (DMI) is an innovative creator of unique thermoset resins, oligomers, epoxy curatives, and numerous other organic materials. Most of our products are functionalized with one or more reactive groups that permit their incorporation into organic polymer adhesives and coatings. Our expertise and 'out-of-the-box' approach to problem-solving yields superior and satisfying solutions for customer’s formulation design requirements.


DMI develops novel reactive chemistries, which solve processing, performance, and related issues for advanced products. DMI has 39 domestic and international patents granted, 17 currently pending, and more provisional and new patents in filing. These patents cover a broad range of applications that assist formulators in solving difficult problems while providing their companies with clear market differentiation advantages. A major current project is developing resins needed for high frequency equipment – like 5G cellular devices.


A global supplier of reactive monomers and oligomers, as well as formulated compositions, DMI helps to enable the creation of differentiated products in the microelectronics, oil and gas, automotive, and composite markets.


Role Description

This is a full-time on-site role as a Chemical Production Specialist located in San Diego, CA. Production Specialists are responsible for activities associated with the manufacturing of specialty resins and additives. They handle a variety of chemicals, record information and observations relating to the chemical reaction process, troubleshoot issues with equipment, and assist in process improvement initiatives and the work plan development process.


Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • 2-year degree in chemistry (or higher) is preferred
  • 2+ years of experience in bulk chemical manufacturing is preferred
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Ability to perform simple mathematical calculations using a calculator
  • Ability to accurately read and take measurements


Responsibilities

  • With limited supervision, perform manufacturing of established products via the use of Operator Checklists (OCLs) utilizing basic chemical handling and manufacturing skills
  • Accurately and legibly record information related to the manufacturing operation
  • Perform limited in-process inspection tests in support of the manufacturing operation
  • Participate in the management of on-site hazardous waste activities
  • Continuously consider personal and site-wide safety requirements
  • Respond to chemical-related incidents, including spills, accidents, and emergencies, and participate in investigations to identify root causes and prevent future incidents
  • Contribute to continued improvement of the DMI quality management system (based on ISO9001:2015)

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to:

  • Stand or walk for long periods of time; sit; use fingers to make small equipment adjustments; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move items up to 55 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to drum quantities using supplied equipment.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus, and the ability to distinguish color change.


Working Conditions

While performing the duties of this job, the employee;

  • Will handle hazardous chemicals
  • May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles
  • Is required to wear the appropriate PPE equipment while handling, mixing, transporting, and packaging chemicals and materials
  • Will occasionally be in environments with moderate to high noise levels


Work Hours

  • The Production Specialist position will be required to work an 8-hour, 5-day week schedule. Shift work (with shift pay differential) may be required after indoctrination and training.
  • This is an hourly position requiring the Operator to record his/her working hours on a timecard
  • All Designer Molecules Inc. job functions require the ability and willingness to work from the San Diego, CA facility located in Scripps Ranch.
