Position Description

InterAction’s Humanitarian Team seeks to shape the policies that guide humanitarian response through the work of its Policy Team. InterAction requires a Program Associate to support the Program Manager, Policy in representing the NGO voice in policy discussions, positioning of INGOs, the development of humanitarian guidance, and the crafting of reforms to make the humanitarian response system efficient and effective. The Associate will serve as a focal point for the team’s UN Partnership Working Group, focused on NGO partnership with UNHCR and the World Food Program, along with providing administrative and technical support for InterAction’s “Grand Bargain” engagement and humanitarian financing portfolio.

This is a full-time position based in Washington D.C. InterAction maintains a hybrid work environment and employees are eligible to telework three days a week and work in the office two days a week. There is an expectation that employees will be based in the Washington D.C. region.

Essential Functions

  • Support InterAction’s UN Partnerships Working Group, focused on NGO partnership with the United Nations humanitarian agencies, particularly UNHCR and the World Food Program, through the organization of meetings, notetaking, responding to inquiries from NGO members, and the promotion of information exchange between NGOS and Un agencies.
  • Support InterAction’s role in the Grand Bargain, including arranging meetings with multiple stakeholders to promote information exchange and develop messaging/advocacy products towards the goals of the Grand Bargain.
  • Liaise with counterparts in UN agencies and US government to facilitate inter-agency coordination, transparency, and collaboration
  • Seek/consolidate input from InterAction members in efforts to develop and distribute advocacy, partnership, and outreach materials, including analysis of annual member/partnership surveys.
  • Organize events, such as workshops, roundtable discussions, and other events and meetings in close collaboration with other HPP staff and members domestically and internationally.
  • Maintain up to date email lists for working groups and relevant thematic issues.
  • Prepare materials such as policy and programmatic briefing documents, situation updates and formal correspondence in support of working group activities; craft agendas; maintain participant lists, and track and disseminate action points.
  • Ensured effective grant management support for the Humanitarian Policy Team by contributing to reports and indicators as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in international relations/studies/development, political science, social science, law or related field
  • Experience working as part of a team, and facilitating cross team collaboration
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office 365
  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Strong commitment to InterAction mission and values

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1-2 years of experience with non-profit or NGO work experience within international humanitarian assistance
  • Knowledge of humanitarian architecture, including coordination structures such as the Inter-Agency Standing Committee, Grand Bargain and others

Supervisory Responsibilities

The position does not supervise employees.

Compensation

Salary range is $45,000 - $52,000 per year, commensurate with skills and experience.

InterAction offers three CareFirst medical insurance plans and an excellent benefits package. Available plans include an HMO, Point of Service and PPO option. The HMO plan is 100% employer paid for employees at all coverage levels.
