Purpose


This position will support the Firm by conducting comprehensive research and investigations related to U.S. economic sanctions and anti-money laundering laws and regulations. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, performing open-source research and investigating the facts regarding OFAC designation actions and potential violations of OFAC administered sanctions programs. Additionally, the role involves tracking relevant U.S. congressional legislation related to U.S. economic sanctions, tracking U.S. sanctions targeting and enforcement actions, and assisting in the evaluation and development of sanctions compliance programs for financial institutions and multinational corporations.


Duties


·     Conduct open-source research to support sanctions delisting and compliance related matters, which includes reviewing and analyzing foreign language media and social media platforms for pertinent information.

·     Perform due diligence and sanctions screening utilizing comprehensive all-source information, including business intelligence data, and document all findings.

·     Draft questions for request for information and client interviews.

·     Attend client meetings, take detailed notes, draft meeting minutes, and prepare action item memoranda to firm management.

·     Review and index documents submitted by clients to ensure thorough organization.

·     Maintain client timeline up to date, tracking key milestones, deliverables, and meetings.

·     Monitor and document U.S. Department of the Treasury and Department of State sanctions and anti-money laundering related press releases, particularly those pertaining to OFAC and FinCEN Enforcement actions and OFAC and State Department designation actions.

·     Monitor and review U.S. Congressional legislation and NGO reporting relating to sanctions and anti-money laundering regulations, as well as emerging issues and analyze how it could impact the Firm’s clients.

·     Assist in evaluating, updating, and revising sanctions and anti-money laundering policies and procedures.

·     Stay informed about international sanctions regimes, including relevant United Nations Sanctions Resolutions and those administered by the European Union and United Kingdom.


Experience Desired


·     2 to 5 years of experience in sanctions and anti-money laundering compliance and enforcement matters, including with respect to conducting look backs and due diligence investigations

·     Experience working with the U.S. Government (i.e. - U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN), relevant State Department’s offices or regional desks, relevant law enforcement and intelligence agencies, or U.S. Congress) or global financial institutions, think tanks, or non-governmental organizations examining enforcement and administration of U.S. sanctions and anti-money laundering laws and regulations.

·     M.A. in International Affairs, Public Policy, or related field.

·     Strong understanding of international affairs, particularly international trade finance and commercial transactions.

·     Proven ability to communicate effectively across business lines.

·     Proficiency in a foreign language (i.e. Russian, Arabic, Farsi, French, Spanish) is a plus.

·     Experience working with transaction monitoring systems, data analytics platforms, remote data extraction and analysis, and data visualization software also desirable.
