Safety Engineer

Job Description

Job Overview:

Under the direction of the GCC Safety Director, the GCC Safety Engineer supports the Company's vision to be the Leader in Safety, Quality, Innovation, and Efficiency by providing daily safety support to GCC work operations. The ideal candidate will support GCC crews and subcontractor teams to identify, minimize, and eliminate risks in construction operations. Assumes ownership of the protection of company resources to include people, equipment, external partners, subcontractors, and the traveling public. Serves as a mentor and ensures the continuation of organizational efforts aligned to continual improvement.

• Serves a champion for safety and risk mitigation. Works with GCC teams to establish and implement safety best-practices in the field, at the face of the work, and across all categories of work.
• Communicates proactive safe work practices through mentoring and coaching to ensure all internal teams and external partners have a clear understanding of best-in-class safe work practices.
• Works closely with GCC teams to develop safety plans, specific to work operations. Assists in the standardization of safety plans and safety checklists for pre-identified work, by phase code.
• Performs daily validations of team safety observations and work operations.
• Leads and supports efforts to implement and facilitate project safety training and education for internal and external partners.
• Proactively works with project/field crews and teams to develop internal safety SMEs across the organization.
• Works with the Safety Director in the management and successful resolution of company claims.
• Assigns safety responsibility and holds others accountable.
• Champions project safety celebration programs and ensures safety achievements are recognized.
• Meets or exceeds project safety, quality, efficiency, and profit goals for work activities.
• Mentors, coaches, and collaborates with GCC crews and teams to ensure a safety-first culture is present. Has a thorough knowledge of OSHA and DOT Standards, as well as company safety policies and procedures
• Stays abreast of government safety regulations, as well as industry developments (best practices)
• Other assignments as directed.
  
  

Manages project environmental, health and safety programs to ensure compliance with applicable government regulations and alignment with company standards and values.

Work Environment: Indoor/Outdoor

Physical Requirements:

Prolonged driving on a regular basis. Lift up to 25 lbs. regularly, and up to 50 lbs. occasionally. Ability to work in extreme weather conditions (heat and cold).

Education

• 4-year degree or equivalent combination of technical training and safety experience required.
• CSM, CSP or related safety certification is REQUIRED
  
  

Experience

• 5+ years construction safety experience in the heavy civil industry or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  
  

Knowledge

• Excellent knowledge of OSHA and DOT Standards required. Professional designations and certifications preferred.
• Demonstrated leadership skills REQUIRED.
