Alger’s Investment Team is the engine that drives the Firm’s strong long-term investment returns of our portfolio strategies and success for our clients. Our investment strategies range from U.S. small cap to large cap stocks and International and Emerging Markets growth stocks, in both traditional long-only and long/short hedged equity portfolios. We have over 40 experienced professionals, led by our portfolio managers and senior sector analysts, who work together to identify and research domestic and global growth trends across all economic sectors to uncover compelling investment opportunities. We target “outside the box” ideas and our firm’s philosophy encourages creative and independent thinking. Each investment idea goes through a rigorous series of analyses by sector specialists rather than generalists. Many of our analysts have direct experience in the industries they invest in and/or advanced degrees in their fields. Compared to other buy-side firms, our teams are small – and this “boutique” culture allows analysts of all levels to contribute. Working in smaller groups, analysts have more responsibilities, rather than being just a “number-cruncher” at a larger firm. With that in mind, we focus on investing in developing talent. Alger’s 10-week Summer Internship Program offers a student the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on work experience while building skills and long-term career potential. The intern will work directly with the Sales and Marketing team who will afford them real-world projects and initiatives. You will be able to develop your sales skills and learn how Alger’s sales team operates and garners success. As an intern, there may be the opportunity to work alongside the marketing team to create, revamp, and analyze research for the firm. The internship program includes a formal orientation and training, direct exposure to Sales and Marketing team members and leaders through work assignments, networking events, and a personalized capstone project.


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Perfect the art of a stock pitch with the goal of being able to generate ideas and profit for the firm
  • Learn about Alger’s investment philosophy, values, how we work and the suite of products we offer our clients
  • Think broadly and ask questions about data, facts, and other information
  • Assist in sales planning related to specific client(s) or sales initiatives that drive efficiencies, propel the sales team and contribute to overall business growth
  • Assist in various analytics projects and provide recommendations to senior management on innovation and maintenance
  • Help maintain current client relationships and aid in the establishment of new connections
  • Create or revamp digital marketing strategies for the Distribution team


Qualifications:

  • Pursuing undergraduate degree or an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Strong passion for investments and following the markets
  • Individual must be able perform in a workplace that relies strongly on teamwork
  • Interest in a career trajectory within sales/relationship management/marketing, including obtaining SIE, Series 7 and 66 licenses upon graduation in alignment with a full-time position
  • Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 or above in a 4.0 scale
  • Excellent analytical, research and follow up skills
  • Microsoft Excel experience highly desirable
  • Must be able to work under tight deadlines with strict adherence to detail
  • Strong written and oral communication skills are essential
