Job Description Summary

Adjuncts are essential to Liberty University’s mission of Training Champions for Christ. It is expected that ‎‎‎‎‎‎an adjunct member models a personal commitment to the goals and values of Liberty University, engage ‎‎‎‎‎‎in an active commitment to, and experience of, personal spiritual formation within a biblically informed ‎‎‎‎‎‎Christian worldview. Adjuncts should view their teaching, engagement with students, and scholarship as a ‎‎‎‎means to a significant educational ‎‎end. They should strive to employ a variety of techniques for the ‎‎‎‎development of good learning ‎‎conditions, view each student as a unique individual, and insofar as it is ‎‎‎‎possible, provide for individual ‎‎differences, abilities, and interests. ‎

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to teaching material from approved curriculum in accordance with assigned schedule, providing detailed feedback, mentoring/challenging students to grow intellectually and spiritually, maintaining contact with students to advise on matters related to academic achievement, attendance, and behavior, and maintaining/reporting grades and attendance in accordance with university policies.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduate or Doctoral Instruction

Doctoral degree from an institution accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in one of the following:

  • Music
  • Music Education
  • Worship
  • Church Music
  • Music Performance
  • Ethnomusicology
  • Music Theory
  • Music History


Undergraduate Instruction

Master's degree from an institution accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in one of the following:

  • Music
  • Music Education
  • Worship
  • Church Music
  • Music Performance
  • Ethnomusicology
  • Music Theory
  • Music History
  • An alternative option for undergraduate teaching is a master's degree from an institution accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, with a minimum of 18 credit hours in one of the disciplines noted above.


Other Qualifications

  • Organizational skills that facilitate the completion of assignments and tasks in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Adequate interpersonal, customer service, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing to convey information.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite and online Learning Management Systems.


Preferred Qualifications

A doctoral degree AND significant professional experience establishing subject matter expertise in one of the following:

  • Music
  • Music Education
  • Worship
  • Church Music
  • Music Performance
  • Ethnomusicology
  • Music Theory
  • Music History


Other qualifications:

  • Demonstrated strengths in teaching at the college level.
  • Strong organizational skills that facilitate assignment/task anticipation and completion.
  • Superior interpersonal, customer service, and presentation skills.
  • Highly effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Mastery of the Microsoft Office suite and online Learning Management Systems.
