UCB's Gene Therapy Vector Core team is seeking a Scientist I - Bioreactor & NGS to join a group focused on AAV upstream process development. The candidate will work across functional teams and will be responsible for bioreactor operations for research grade AAV production to support gene therapy platform development activities; including capsid engineering platform. This is an onsite position and will be based out of our Bedford, MA location,
NOTE: We are interested in every qualified candidate who is eligible to work in the United States. However, we are not able to sponsor visas at any point for this role. This includes taking over sponsorship for an existing Visa.

Major Responsibilities
- Production of AAV vectors using batch or perfumion mode in bioreactors up to 50L
- Characterization of packaged AAV genome by next generation sequencing (NGS)
- Support gene therapy platform development activities by applying upstream expertise
- Good practices of data record keeping
- Collaborate with the vector biology and downstream process development teams
- Ability to function independently and cross functionally across various UCB teams (data scientists, cell biologists, , disease area experts, etc)
- BS degree in Biology, Biomanufacturing or related field with 8 years of experience - OR - MS degree with 6 years of experience - OR - PhD or Post Doc with relevant academic research experience
- Hands-on AAV experience in industry and/or academia
- Demonstrated past experience of either one of the following skills:
- Upstream unit operation mastery at various scales with biologics or for viral gene therapy applications.
- Next generation sequencing experience for characterization of libraries
- Good communication skills with demonstrated ability to work across disciplines
- MS with Biochemical Engineering or Biomanufacturing degree with direct AAV production experience in bioreactors
- 3+ years of experience with process development of AAV vectors
- 3+ years of hands on experience with NGS library preparation, PacBio data acquisition, analysis and QC
- At least 1 year experience in drug discovery in a pre-clinical setting
