Scientist II, Discovery Biology

Summary We are seeking an experienced Scientist to join our Discovery organization in Cambridge. This opportunity is for a person who strives to innovate, is never satisfied with routines, and has a strong heart for ARTBIO’s mission. A self-starter and innovator, you will be part of a cross-function team to spearhead key programs from our internal and partnered Discovery portfolio as well as support the build of the Early Discovery Biology disciplines at ARTBIO-Cambridge. MA in the USA. Responsibilities

  • Lead, design, and execute cell-based studies to support identification and validation of novel targets as well as the advancement of drug discovery projects from hit discovery through IND
  • Serve as internal champion for a target program, developing subject matter expertise and advising on criteria for development candidate nomination
  • Develop functional assays to enable SAR for internal and partnered programs
  • Demonstrate proficiency in mammalian cell line engineering, flow cytometry, and biochemical analysis of signaling pathways
  • Develop innovative plate-based complementation, target engagement, and reporter activity assays to drive optimal parameters of radiopharmaceuticals
  • Independently design and execute cell-based experiments and share key findings/path forward with internal/external project teams and senior management
  • Manage internal and external project scientists to advance multiple small molecule drug discovery programs
  • Analyze experimental results, brainstorm and troubleshoot findings thoughtfully and proactively
  • Work seamlessly in matrixed environment to ensure technical support across programs
  • Multi-task and collaborate effectively with other scientists and research associates to accomplish goals on tight timelines. Ability to navigate in a start-up environment and adapt in the ‘unknown’
  • Maintain compliance with lab documentation to enable collaboration among multinational project teams


Qualifications

  • PhD in Biology or related discipline, with 2-4 years of industrial experience, or equivalent
  • Background in cancer biology with experience and quantitative impact using cell biology techniques to enable discovery biology
  • Deep expertise in mammalian cell culture is required; proficiency and independence with core techniques such as Western blotting, CRISPR (KO/KI), flow cytometry, phenotypic assays are also essential
  • Demonstrated success in development, optimization and execution of quantitative cellular assays to support small molecule drug discovery
  • Previous experience with AlphaLISA, TR-FRET, NanoBRET, HiBit, CETSA, ternary complex formation assays preferred
  • Strong management and mentorship skills with history of advancing the careers of direct reports
  • Excellent organizational, communication, multi-tasking and collaboration skills
  • Outstanding problem-solver, driven by innovative approaches, and comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment
