Description

The Senior Accountant will play a crucial role in supporting the Controller by helping to maintain the Corporate Accounting function. This position will be Coursedog's second accounting hire and have room to learn, grow, and own aspects of the accounting organization and build out from the ground up. This role involves executing day-to-day accounting activities, including maintaining the general ledger, managing accounts payable and receivable, and ad hoc projects. Additionally, the role requires the completion of monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes, as well as providing support during the annual financial statement audit.

Key responsibilities include ensuring compliance with internal financial accounting policies and US GAAP, preparing financial statements, and compiling data to support audit requests. The Senior Accountant will also assist in developing internal financial reporting packages, reconciling general ledger accounts, and addressing ad-hoc queries from investors and team members. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, with a CPA designation, and a minimum of three years of related experience. Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills, along with proficiency in MS Office and advanced MS Excel, are essential. Experience with Quickbooks & Maxio and a background in Public Accounting or scale-up SaaS companies are preferred but not required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Owner of revenue accounting including data entry in Maxio (rev rec tool), customer invoicing and collections, month end close tasks, remittance of sales tax
  • Oversee AP including inputting invoices, building relationships with vendors, getting internal team approvals for payments, reconciling AP Aging on a monthly basis
  • Uphold company T&E Policy – reviewing expense reports for compliance and coding credit card transactions for reconciliation
  • Execute the Corporate Accounting function using the company's ERP Package, including maintenance of the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
  • Develop, implement, and ensure compliance with internal financial accounting policies and procedures.
  • Assist with timely and accurate preparation of financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (US GAAP).
  • Assist in the preparation of internal financial reporting packages
  • Direct reconciliation of general ledger accounts.
  • Complete the monthly, quarterly and year-end close process. Including journal entry input and assistance with variance analysis preparation.
  • Support annual financial statement audit, prepare required schedules, and compile data to support audit requests.
  • Assist with ad-hoc requests or questions from investors and internal team members
  • Assist in establishing short- and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures.
  • Enhance and maintain internal controls and processes for the Company including working cross functionally

Skills, Knowledge, And Expertise

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting/finance or similar field required; MBA or MAC a plus.
  • CPA strongly preferred . Prior Public Accounting and/or scale-up SaaS company background is preferred, but not required.
  • Minimum of 3 years related experience
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP, especially ASC 606 Revenue Accounting
  • Has a "why" mindset – consistently questions the meaning behind the work being performed and consistently looking to make your work more efficient
  • Grit, hustle, and a "get-it-done" attitude -- no task is too big or too small -- with the ability to context switch between strategic thinking, deep analytical problem solving, and execution related tasks
  • Impeccable attention to detail supported by excellent written and verbal cross-functional communication (with a tendency to over-communicate)
  • Motivated self-starter with ownership mentality, a track record of success, and a proven ability to juggle multiple projects/tasks while hitting deadlines
