BASIC PURPOSE: The Sr. Staff Accountant is responsible for applying accounting principles and procedures for all phases of the general ledger to identify and analyze financial information, prepare accurate and timely financial reports and statements and ensure appropriate accounting control and procedures.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Compile and analyze financial information to prepare financial statements including monthly and annual accounts to enable our company to establish the result of its operations over a period of time.
  • Ensure financial records are maintained in compliance with General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Company policy and other accepted policies and procedures to assure consistency in accounting practices.
  • Analyze accounting transactions to ensure accuracy and appropriate recording of information and calculation and makes or directs correcting entries resolving accounting discrepancies and irregularities and making sure all phases of the general ledger, month end and financial statements are correct.
  • Review final postings to ensure accurate timely monthly, quarterly and year end close by completing account analysis reconciliations and review accruals to make adjustments as needed.
  • Continuous management and support of budget and forecast activities to look after the fact at what caused a difference between plans vs. actual including explanations of variances.
  • Utilize the accounting infrastructure in a manner that reflect correct systems utilization that help the Organization in the planning and controlling of current and future operations and initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain financial databases and associated records.
  • Financial audit preparation and coordinate the audit process as it pertains to assigned accounts and responsibilities. Maintain and make sure Accounting processes are in compliance of Sarbanes-Oxley Act by doing ongoing analysis to ensure accurate financial disclosure.
  • Analyze and advise on business operations including revenue and expenditure trends, financial commitments and future revenues in order to understand the financial condition of the company and identify specific areas where new policies should be implemented or existing ones revised. Provide strategic recommendations.
  • Establish and monitor the implementation and maintenance of accounting control procedures to provide direction and guidance in connection with those accounting transactions, procedures, and reports through the department.
  • Prepare financial management reports for the organization, departments and projects and performs special projects, and analysis as required.Prepare tax returns for annual filing of reportable winnings of U.S. and foreign passengers (Gambling). Review tax withholding payments to the IRS and quarterly and year end reporting requirements and prepares detailed back up by voyage.
  • Perform other job related functions as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance. Masters degree in accounting or CPA is preferred.

EXPERIENCE: Minimum four years of relevant accounting experience.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS: Proven knowledge of accepted accounting practices and principles. Strong understanding of economic principles, auditing practices and principles and applicable laws, codes and regulations. A minimum of 4 years of experience in the management of financial/accounting systems, budgets, balance sheet reconciliation, month end cycle, financial reporting, financial data analysis, auditing, taxation and providing financial advice. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Advanced level in Excel and Word. Proficiency in database applications would be preferred (Visio, Access, etc.) Working experience with GL People Soft is strongly preferred. Attention to detail and accuracy. Planning and organizing skills. Information and task monitoring. Problem analysis, judgment and problem solving. Supervisory skills. Ability to multi-task, work under pressure, meet deadlines and be able to thrive in a fast paced
