Under the direction of the Accounting Manager, the Senior Accountant is primarily responsible for maintaining financial procedures and processes that support accurate and timely financial reporting for the company. In this role, you will work closely with the Accounting Manager to prepare monthly financial reports within the first few business days of the month in order for the executive team to review internally and then report to our parent company. This position will be critical in identifying and developing processes that will improve workflow across the department. This can be a remote position.
Essential Functions
Ensure proper GAAP treatment for general ledger transactions
Responsible for assisting with month-end close process
Manages monthly balance sheet reconciliations
Prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports
Records reoccurring and one-time journal entries
Provides financial data needed to report to various regulatory agencies
Assists with annual financial audit and occasional regulatory exams
Analyzes financial reports and explains variances
Produces financial data for management team upon request
Assists with special Accounting projects periodically
Perform other duties as assigned
Job Requirements, Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Minimum of 3 years of progressive accounting experience in a corporate accounting department
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting preferred
Knowledge of Property and Casualty Insurance accounting is preferred but not required
Strong analytical and problem solving skills with particular attention to detail
Exceptional organizational skills
Solid time management skills
Assist in finding more efficient ways to improve work flow and processes
Strong computer aptitude which includes expertise with Microsoft Office Excel as well as experience with accounting software and general ledgers
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Able to work independently with little supervision, but also able to work collaboratively with a team
Must be able to maintain confidentiality when dealing with private company and employee data
