Clean Energy Talent has been exclusively engaged in a search for a Senior Director of Business Development for one of the fastest-growing solar companies in the US. This strategic position is designed for a dynamic leader who is skilled at driving growth through innovative sales strategies and deep industry relationships.
Location: Remote (East Coast focus, open to candidates in Central or West Coast US)

About the Role: As the Senior Director of Business Development, you will be instrumental in propelling the company's sales efforts, leveraging technical, financial, and procurement channels to surpass sales targets. This role demands a proactive leader who can effectively collaborate across departments and lead complex negotiations, demonstrating a keen understanding of the solar power market.
Responsibilities:
- Strategic Sales Leadership: Drive sales activities to exceed targets by engaging with customers’ technical, financial, and procurement functions.
- Market Analysis and Strategy: Conduct in-depth solar power market research and customize deal structures and pricing strategies to optimize profitability.
- Relationship Management: Develop and sustain robust relationships with EPCs (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction), IPPs (Independent Power Producers), and developers throughout the solar project cycle.
- Customer Engagement: Map and navigate customer organizations to identify and engage key decision-makers and influencers.
- Contract Negotiation: Lead contract negotiations and manage the redlining process, ensuring favorable terms for complex solar projects.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with customer account managers, sales analysts, and engineers to enhance sales processes and outcomes.
- Financial Acumen: Engage in financial modeling with customers to articulate and demonstrate the potential return on investment from solar projects.
Additional Skills and Experience Required:
- Advanced Negotiation Skills: Expertise in negotiating high-value contracts and strategic partnerships within the solar industry.
- Project Management: Ability to oversee project timelines and deliverables, ensuring alignment with strategic sales goals and customer expectations.
- Regulatory and Compliance Knowledge: Understanding of relevant regulatory and compliance issues affecting the solar industry to navigate and leverage these effectively in deal structuring.
- Technological Proficiency: Familiarity with the latest solar technologies and trends, including photovoltaic systems and battery storage solutions, to enhance value propositions.
- Leadership and Team Development: Experience in leading and mentoring sales teams to cultivate high-performance cultures focused on achieving sales excellence.
Qualifications:
- 10+ years of business development experience within the renewable energy sector, with substantial exposure to major EPCs, IPPs, and developers.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, or a related field; MBA or relevant graduate degree preferred.
- Proven track record of successful business development and complex deal closures in the renewable energy industry.
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills, capable of engaging executive-level stakeholders.
- Agile and strategic mindset, with the ability to navigate challenges and drive results in a fast-paced environment.
