Senior Director of Pharmacy Programs

Brief Description

The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD (“The HARRIS CENTER”) is looking for a Senior Director, Pharmacy Programs to join our team. The position will be responsible for the overall direction and operation of The Harris Center’s Pharmacy Operations which includes a sophisticated Pharmacy Assistance Program in a manner that ensures safety, integrity and professionalism both clinically and financially while attaining superior customer satisfaction

Your Role In Action

Managing the Pharmacy Work Force

  • Interview, hire, train, supervise and evaluate pharmacy staff in accordance with the TSBP Rules and Regulations and the policies and procedures of The Harris Center to optimize the department’s clinical and financial performance.
  • Utilize coaching, progressive discipline and/or recognition as allowed by the agency’s policies to address lack of performance or performance that exceeds expectations
  • Optimizing Medication Management and Advancing Pharmacy Practice
    • Directs and manages the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee to ensure the agency’s formulary meets the needs of the patients served while maintaining the pharmacy budget.
    • Participates in Death Review.
    • Participates in the Medical Director’s Monthly Physician Meetings.
  • Advancing the Application of Information Technology in the Medication Management System
    • Identify the information technology needs for the pharmacy department and works with administration to assure those needs are proactively met.
    • Sits on agency committees that may evaluate overall agency information technology needs
  • Medication System Management and Improvement/Quality Outcomes
    • Establishes and maintains an overall quality assurance program for the pharmacy department and assures each Pharmacy are achieving the minimum quality standards set for the department while assuring those areas that do not are addressed with a documented improvement plan.
    • Works with the Manager of Programs such as DSRIP for pharmacy related projects which may include data collection and analysis.
    • Measures customer satisfaction regularly.
    • Track and address medication errors.
  • Drug Utilization Management
    • Direct the process of drug acquisition and cost effective management of the agency formulary
    • Plan, organize and direct the agency’s Indigent Drug Program (PAP) to include systematic feedback to the DOP’s supervisor and/or the ED and/or Board of Directors.
    • Utilizes clinical skills to determine prescriber utilization outcomes.
  • Supply Chain Management
    • Directs the procurement and negotiation process for vendor contracting and is the agencies agent for approval of such contracts striving for the best quality and processing in drug and supply procurement.
    • Financial Management
    • Establishes the pharmacy budget in coordination with the agencies over strategic direction and constraints including monthly review and compliance.
    • Regulatory and Accreditation Compliance
    • Demonstrate knowledge of all laws, regulations and standards in the area of responsibility and ensures compliance is met.
    • Research and Educational Missions
    • Participates in the agency’s IRB process when needed.
    • Set the goals and objectives for progressive education for the agency’s medical staff and pharmacy staff as it relates to new drugs and/or therapies.
    • Institutional Representation and Leadership
    • At the request of the CMO or ED, participate in the agency’s executive leadership forums, employee recognition initiatives or other initiatives that are required by the agencies executive leadership.
    • Plan, organize and direct Pharmacy Internship Programs and Pharmacy Residency Programs if necessary.
Education

What qualifications you will need:

  • Pharmacy Degree from school of pharmacy accredited by ACPE
  • Texas Pharmacy License in good standing
  • Master’s Degree in Business Administration preferred

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of management experience within either a hospital or retail pharmacy
  • Experience with Pharmacy Assistance Programs and/or 340B Programs that annually attain $5 million dollars a year for patients within the institution previously managed
  • Experience with operation of a Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committees
  • RFP Experience with Group Purchasing Organizations, Drug Wholesalers and other vendors

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Communication at all levels within and outside the organization. This would include effective communication by phone/in person about complex matters with vendors, departmental personal, administration and others.
    • Computer literacy to include not just the ability to utilize programs like Microsoft Word, Excel and Access but able to use these tools to do complete, complicated data analysis and reporting.
    • Speak and write clearly.
    • Able to concentrate on several tasks simultaneously.
    • Work with little to no supervision.
    • Work varied hours to complete position requirements.
