Position Overview: Our client is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel with a strong background in renewable energy project development to join our legal team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in structuring and negotiating commercial agreements related to renewable energy project development, including project finance, land acquisition, permitting, and interconnection agreements. This role offers the flexibility to work remotely and the opportunity to contribute to our mission of accelerating the transition to renewable energy sources worldwide.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Commercial Agreement Negotiation: Lead the negotiation, drafting, and review of commercial agreements related to renewable energy project development, including power purchase agreements (PPAs), land leases, interconnection agreements, and construction contracts.
  2. Project Financing: Provide legal support for project financing transactions, including debt and equity financing arrangements, tax equity investments, and credit facilities.
  3. Risk Management: Identify legal risks associated with renewable energy project development and implement strategies to mitigate exposure, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  4. Land Acquisition and Permitting: Collaborate with internal stakeholders to facilitate land acquisition and permitting processes for renewable energy projects, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and community engagement requirements.
  5. Interconnection and Grid Integration: Negotiate interconnection agreements with utilities and grid operators, ensuring seamless integration of renewable energy projects into the electrical grid.
  6. Stakeholder Engagement: Manage relationships with external partners, including landowners, government agencies, regulatory bodies, and community organizations, to support successful project development and implementation.
  7. Legal Compliance: Stay informed of relevant laws, regulations, and industry best practices impacting renewable energy project development, providing guidance and training to internal teams as needed.


Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctorate (JD) required
  • Admission to the Bar in the relevant jurisdiction.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience practicing law, with a focus on commercial transactions within the renewable energy sector, including project development and finance.
  • Strong understanding of renewable energy project development processes, including land acquisition, permitting, and interconnection requirements.
  • Demonstrated expertise in negotiating and drafting complex commercial agreements, with a keen attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote work environment, managing multiple priorities effectively.
  • Passion for renewable energy and a commitment to driving positive change through sustainable business practices.
