What We Need

We are seeking a Senior Manager to join our Industrial Controls team within our Core Hardware Engineering organization. This pivotal role will directly report to the Director of Industrial Controls Engineering, where you will oversee the meticulous execution of PLC (Programmable Logic Controllers) development and deployment initiatives while progressing the strategic direction. As a senior leader, you will be instrumental in ensuring our team produces reliable, high-quality products for our customers, maintaining a culture of innovation to help drive forward our technological advancements, ensuring seamless integration with other stakeholders, and optimizing operational efficiency. The ideal candidate will exhibit a profound commitment to customer satisfaction, adeptly gathering insights and engaging in constructive dialogue to refine our solutions and always exceed expectations.

What We Do

The Industrial Controls team is part of our Core Hardware Engineering organization, which is on a mission to develop, deploy, and maintain products for our warehouse automation systems. With a proven track record in industrial automation specification, design implementation, standard engineering practices and documentation, we aim to develop and deploy platforms that utilize advanced hardware and push the limits of technology. We prioritize cross-functional collaboration, continuously refine our engineering processes, and uphold high standards in implementation to align with the strategic goals of the company and the evolving demands of the market. As a Senior Manager, you will be at the forefront of this mission, leading the team to build world-class automation platforms that minimize development time, reduce commissioning time, and eliminate unplanned downtime. 

What you’ll do

  • Lead a team of Industrial Controls Engineers assigned to projects and initiatives.
  • Plan work to meet deadlines, budget requirements, and system performance criteria.
  • Exercise technical leadership, overseeing complex projects and providing guidance to team members based on your knowledge and experience.
  • Mentor and cultivate the professional growth of team members, fostering a culture of learning and development.
  • Conduct performance reviews, complete technical development assessments, and support career path objectives through training sessions, seminars, and other venues.       
  • Work with the leadership team in the pursuit of department objectives.   
  • Communicate the vision and values expressed in corporate policies.   
  • Develop comprehensive technical and strategic plans aligned with organizational objectives, ensuring consideration of requirements both internally and externally.
  • Champion the formulation and ensure the execution of rigorous test strategies, overseeing the generation of test reports to meet strict adherence to requirements.
  • Operate with a high degree of autonomy and self-sufficiency, requiring minimal supervision to achieve objectives effectively.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, evaluating and endorsing technical solutions within established architectures.
  • Lead the implementation of new control system functionalities and the modification of existing solutions, encompassing PLC and HMI technologies.
  • Collaborate closely with Release Management to facilitate seamless updates and deployments of PLC and HMI systems for clients, whether on-site or remotely.
  • Address emergencies and other challenging situations.   
  • Support customers to address unforeseen issues and production Sites.
  • 40% Travel Required – to HQ and various customer locations (Canada and United States).  

What You’ll Need

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering or Automation Engineer or Computer science or in a related discipline.
  • 10+ years of experience in automated systems engineering- Design & Implementation of Industrial Control systems using PLCs, HMIs, and Drives.
  • 10+ years of programming PLCs, HMIs, and related equipment for Industrial Control Systems.
  • 10+ years of experience with automated systems engineering.
  • 5+ years of managing teams with highly technical resources.
  • Strong background in troubleshooting complex automated systems.
  • Advanced experience programming Rockwell PLC’s (ControlLogix, GuardLogix).
  • Advanced knowledge of Industrial networks.
  • Knowledge of Power Systems to design drive controls.
  • Able to understand and read electrical and mechanical schematics.
  • Experience with AC/DC Drive Control Architecture.
  • Experience developing and programming Human Machine Interface (Ignition 8, FactoryTalk ME/SE).
  • Strong knowledge of Inductive Automation products is a plus.
  • Experience organizing a team and prioritizing tasks.
  • Experience with JIRA and agile methodology is a plus.

Our Environment

  • Up to 40% of travel may be required. Employees must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to drive and/or fly to client and other customer locations.
  • The employee is responsible for owning a credit card and managing expenses personally to be reimbursed on a bi-weekly basis.
