I got to do a demo of Ibis with Alexey Grigorev at his Open-Source Spotlight series! If working with multiple data systems is part of your day-to-day, Ibis is an open-source dataframe library that will allow you to write once and execute everywhere across DuckDB, Polars, Snowflake, Spark, Flink, etc. We chatted about what a "portable dataframe library" means, how to do data cleaning using Ibis and connect to different backends, how streaming fits into the picture, and how you can try out and contribute to Ibis! Of course, my one advice for the audience is to always be open-minded and step out of your comfort zone. I started working on streaming without having much knowledge about streaming, but ended up fascinated by the infrastructure powering many large-scale machine learning platforms today. The intersection of different fields and technologies oftentimes draws interesting connections and ideas in unexpected ways. Lastly, if you work with data and are passionate about learning, exploring new tools and technologies, etc, you should totally check out all the wonderful things they are doing at DataTalksClub! In addition to the Open-Source Spotlight, there is a ton of learning resources on their public YouTube channel.
