Responsibilities

Job Purpose

Pattern Energy is seeking an experienced Senior Payroll and Payroll Tax Specialist who will initially be responsible for processing and auditing several of the company multi-state payrolls with a focus on the Distributed Generation (DG) Business Unit as well as Puerto Rico and Mexico payrolls. A primary responsibility is managing payroll tax returns for all Pattern Entities. This includes managing the quarterly and annual filings, downloading from the HCM Systems, reviewing, and reconciling filings, analyzing, and resolving variances and investigating and responding to agency notices. Other duties include monitoring compliance with tax and employment regulations as well as interpreting and applying new regulations. This position serves as the primary back-up to the Senior Manager of Payroll and Compliance. This is a highly visible position that provides service to the entire employee population.

Key Accountabilities

  • Processing of payroll in an accurate and timely manner across the US, Canada, Puerto Rico, and Mexico.
  • Tax Return preparation, review and reconciliation
  • Investigating, responding to and resolving tax agency notices and inquires
  • Review Legislative changes and ensure compliance – review existing regulations
  • Employee support – Respond to and resolve employee inquiries
  • Supporting other dept sub-units as well as Accounting, Tax and Senior Management
  • Monitor ADP WFN system integrity and adherence to employment and tax rules
  • Providing Back Up Support for Sr. Manager Payroll and Compliance

Qualifications

Experience/Qualifications/Education Required

Education Requirements

  • 10+ years working in Payroll/HR/Benefits/Tax in various industries with multi-state experience.
  • BS/BA Degree in relevant course of study.
  • Member of Payroll.Org (American Payroll Association) as well as the local chapter.
  • Certificates and coursework of continuing education in payroll and tax related education.

Technical Skills

  • Recent ADP Work Force Now experience with intermediate to advanced level of system knowledge.
  • Experience with payroll tax preparation, review and reconciliation with agency notice resolution.
  • Advanced Excel skills including VLOOKUP and Pivot Tables

Additional Requirements

  • Very detailed oriented and organized with robust analytical skills as evidenced in previous work experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and multi-task.
  • Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with all levels of employees.
  • Dedicated payroll professional with desire to excel and advance.

The expected starting pay range for this role is $90,000 - $115,000 USD. This range is an estimate and base pay may be above or below the ranges based on several factors including but not limited to location, work experience, certifications, and education. In addition to base pay, Pattern’s compensation program includes a bonus structure for full-time employees of all levels.
