The Role at a Glance

The Life & Annuity Reinsurance team at Lincoln is responsible for coordinating reinsurance administration, execution, and monitoring efforts across Lincoln’s Retail Solutions organization. This expanding team is looking to onboard an actuary to play a key role in development and maintenance of monitoring systems intended to review the performance and implementation of strategic reinsurance transactions. This person will drive an initial sprint to develop monitoring infrastructure on a backlog of transactions and will maintain ownership of monitoring assigned deals on a recurring basis. This person will work with deal leads to onboard new transactions into monitoring systems and provide a key feedback loop to finance, reinsurance accounting, and deal leads on business performance and expectations of each transaction.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Develops and maintains monitoring infrastructure for reinsurance deal performance within the Life line of business, with potential to expand to Annuities.
  • Compiles historical information relating to deal implementation, intention, and performance expectations.
  • Captures intentions and risks of strategic reinsurance transactions by understanding analysis performed at the time of deal inception and putting self in the shoes of the individuals/teams who executed the transaction.
  • Transforms prior models or develops new models as needed to allow for side-by-side comparison of settlement line items, financial indicators, and deal performance drivers.
  • Assists in creating historical reviews on strategic reinsurance transactions, presenting findings to key stakeholders, and setting expectations of key drivers specific to the subject transaction.
  • Provides feedback to all parties involved in the reinsurance data ecosystem and uses actuarial expertise to recognize, probe, and remediate/explain when results are misaligned with expectation.
  • Uses actuarial judgment to determine key drivers to monitor and forethought to determine the level of scrutiny each line item should receive.
  • Supports new transaction onboarding and assists deal leads with information gathering when existing strategic deals require extension or modification from original terms.
  • Assists in researching problems and questions from stakeholders across the organization, including but not limited to, Accounting, Finance, Life Solutions, Annuity Solutions, M&A.

What We’re Looking For

  • 4 Year/Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience (4 years of experience in lieu of Bachelor's) (Minimum Required)
  • 5-7+ Years experience in actuarial science that directly aligns with the specific responsibilities for this position
  • FSA designation or ASA designation with additional years of actuarial experience
  • 4+ Years experience in individual life finance, reinsurance, pricing product development, or forecasting
  • Proficiency and proven ability in model or process development, including modeling in actuarial projection systems (MG-ALFA, FIS-Prophet, GGY-Axis), coding languages (R, Python), and/or Excel.
  • Ability to analyze complex information and to evaluate the implications of a course of action or solution.
  • Ability to interpret and apply common sense understanding to carry out a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Evaluate trends in data or information.

The pay range for this position is $105,301 - $190,000 with anticipated pay for new hires between the minimum and midpoint of the range and could vary above and below the listed range as permitted by applicable law. Pay is based on non-discriminatory factors including but not limited to work experience, education, location, licensure requirements, proficiency and qualifications required for the role. The base pay is just one component of Lincoln’s total rewards package for employees. In addition, the role may be eligible for the Annual Incentive Program, which is discretionary and based on the performance of the company, business unit and individual. Other rewards may include long-term incentives, sales incentives and Lincoln’s standard benefits package.
