What You Will Be Doing

Albertson’s Companies is looking for people who are interested in re-imagining the grocery experience by harnessing the power of digital technologies to optimize how we reach our customers. As a Sr. Manager of Commercial Strategy, you will be at the forefront of helping the business grow by driving profitability and growth of our product portfolio.

You will be a key member of the Strategy team reporting directly to the Director of Business Strategy. You will work with sales, product, analytics, operations, and finance teams to analysis data and develop and execute commercial strategies for media products and channels, and the total retail media portfolio. Furthermore, you will derive insights by performing internal business and customer research and external client and industry research.

The position will be remote but preferably based close to Boise, Idaho, or one of our main regional offices (Seattle, WA, Portland, OR, Pleasanton CA, Denver CO, Dallas TX, Chicago, IL, or Fullerton, CA, Phoenix, AZ).

Main Responsibilities

  • Formulate go-to-market and commercial strategies to introduce products into the market and create frameworks for how products move from proof of concepts, alphas, betas, and into full scale commercial rollouts.
  • Develop end-to-end commercial plans and work with program managers, sales, marketing, and operations to orchestrate execution.
  • Clearly identify and articulate risks, opportunities, and dependencies to be involved in executing proposed commercial strategies.
  • Conduct internal business research (shopper insights, business metrics) and external market analysis (trends, competitive landscape, client needs, buyer personas) to derive insights, refine value propositions, and develop commercial strategies.
  • Work with sales, marketing, and product to formulate pricing strategies and product positioning.
  • Build and maintain financial models that span a product’s lifecycle.
  • Define and track KPIs to measure viability, profitability, and commercial strategy success.
  • Create executive level presentations and craft cohesive, concise, and persuasive stories and recommendations.
  • Identify and build key relationships, utilizing collaboration and soft influence to aid in achieving strategic goals of the organization.
  • Manage, coach, and mentor at least one direct report.
  • Continuous improvement of team effectiveness and productivity.
  • Some travel may be required, up to 5%.

The salary range is $102,700 to $143,800 annually. Starting salary will vary based on criteria such as location, experience, and qualifications. There may be flexibility for exceptional candidates. Benefits may include medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, sick pay, PTO/Vacation pay/Flexible Time Off, paid holidays (8-9 days annually) bereavement pay and retirement benefits (such as 401(k) eligibility). Associates in this position are also eligible for a quarterly bonus.

What We Are Searching For

  • Strong quantitative capabilities and experience performing market research, gathering data, synthesizing insights, performing analysis, and developing data-backed recommendations.
  • Experience formulating strategies and building actionable strategic plans to drive execution.
  • Experience working cross functionally in ambiguous and high growth environments with the ability to identify opportunities for improvement, define goals and outcomes, drive action, and achieve results.
  • Effective leadership ability and proficiency in coaching and mentoring direct reports.
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills with the ability to influence across to other Sr. Managers and upward to Directors, Sr. Directors, and VPs.
  • Relentless strategic curiosity and ability to understand customers, market dynamics, and internal business to arrive at the right building blocks for future growth.
  • Ability to develop relationships, influence and collaborate across all levels.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and multi-task to meet deadlines.
  • Creativity, integrity, empathy, and a bias towards action.
  • We believe the successful candidate has these qualifications and experience:
  • A bachelor’s degree in business, finance, economics, or equivalent experience. MBA from top tier program preferred.
  • 7+ years’ experience within finance, strategy, or product functions. Management consulting experience preferred.
  • Experience performing market research, gathering data, synthesizing insights, and performing analysis.
  • Experience building complex, dynamic, and automated financial models.
  • Experience working cross functionally in ambiguous and high growth environments with the ability to identify opportunities for improvement, define goals and outcomes, drive action, and achieve results.
