Reporting directly to the VP of Market Research, the role of Senior Manager of Market Research and Strategy provides research and insights that help drive strategic marketing and product decisions that focus on brand, improving customer experiences, and building new sources of revenue. The Senior Manager of Market Research & Strategy, along with their small team, are a strategic partner for new product development and marketing efforts and a go-to source of customer, prospect, and market insights.

We’re excited to hire a new Sr. Manager, Market Research & Strategy who can:

  • Oversee the design, execution, and delivery of research studies focused on key customer segments (personas) attitudes and behaviors, tech/product solution usage and feature optimizations, brand strategy and positioning, and iterative idea and concept testing
  • Ability to run minimal 6+ studies of differing complexities at different stages of the research lifecycle at once, manage people and research agency partners; adeptly interpret and prioritize business questions and needs while balancing quick-turn ad hoc requests
  • Serve as a role model for research objectivity, quality, integrity, and actionability
  • Manage research agency partners
  • Lead a team of one, to include performance, development, coaching, and day to day direction
  • Lead the development of research methodologies and tools that are innovative and aligned with industry best practices
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate research findings into product development process
  • Analyze and interpret complex data sets to generate actionable insights and recommendations for decision-making
  • Present research findings and strategic recommendations to senior leadership and stakeholders
  • Monitor industry trends, competitors, and market dynamics to inform strategic decision-making
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external research partners and vendors
  • Mentor and coach junior members of the research team
  • Drive continuous improvement in research practices and processes to increase efficiency and effectiveness.

There is no perfect candidate, but we are looking for:

  • Passion to want to make local government work better and desire to dig deep to do it
  • Comfort with meeting new people from all over the US in new and different locations and a genuine curiosity to learn about each of their universes
  • Extensive and broad experience in Consumer Insights, Product Insights, Market Research, and Competitive Intelligence within the tech sector particularly as it relates to innovation / emerging businesses
  • Strong background in data analytics and primary research (qual and quant) with confidence to create research mixed methods plans and tight timelines
  • Strong problem defining and solution skills, intellectual curiosity, and love of innovation and collaboration – ambiguity is seen as opportunity to be creative; start-up research experience another plus
  • Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills required, proficiency with statistical software also a must (e.g., SPSS, R, Q, etc.)
  • Significant experience analyzing and synthesizing data across industry, customer/prospect worlds, and secondary research to deliver actionable insights and recommendations; experience with Census / government available data and Salesforce data a big plus
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas in efficient and compelling ways to influence senior executive decision-makers
  • Strong practical understanding of how local government and public-serving agencies work, tech solutions used to get the jobs done, and a keen interest to learn how their work impacts the public they serve
  • Smart leveraging of insights and resources from vendors, tools, and outside data sources
  • Advanced degree (master’s or beyond) in research field such as science, psychology, finance, economics, communications, etc. or business or bachelor’s degree with 3+ years industry/sector relevant work experience

Compensation And Benefits

  • Estimated Salary Range: $119,100 - $181,100 – full grade range annually. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience and is based on a 40-hour work week.
