Medical Company in Columbia, SC seeking an experienced Staff Accountant to join their Finance Department. This role will report to the Accounting Manager and will provide professional accounting support to a variety of financial functions for the company, including preparation of month end close journal entries, performing cash and other account reconciliations and various other special projects.
Responsibilities:
Reconciles assigned bank accounts and various balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis
Prepares monthly journal entries to include, but not limited to cash and accounts receivables
Compiles miscellaneous invoices
Prepares weekly reconciliation of payments posted in practice management system to bank deposits
Imports patient refunds for payment processing
Serves as a backup to accounts payable specialist and other accountant.
Prepares business license renewals and submits payments
Performs annual unclaimed property process including reporting and payment
Assists with property tax payment processes
Ensures compliance with cash management procedures and internal controls
Assists in improving processes and procedures for a more efficient and accurate monthly close
Assists management as needed with financial information requests and questions
Assists in preparation of annual financial audits
Assists in the development, documentation and implementation of departmental accounting procedures and standards
Maintains strictest confidentiality to ensure that privileged and/or proprietary information is adequately safeguarded against disclosure
Proposes cost saving opportunities when appropriate
Performs research related to accounting guidance as needed
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting
Two or more years of accounting experience
Ability to work with minimal supervision
Knowledge of automated accounting systems
Strong written, oral and presentation skills
Intermediate skills in Excel
Advanced analytical skills, including the ability to research, interpret and report on complex data
Strong interpersonal skills; must be able to communicate well with wide variety of individuals within the
organization and work well in a team-based environment
Goal oriented with ability to work effectively to meet deadlines
Strong attention to detail
