Job Summary/Basic Functions

A staff Interpreter facilitates communication between current students who are deaf/hard of hearing in all academic aspects of the university experience. Including but not limited to, classroom lectures, academic advising, field trips, and internships.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Level I

Minimum Education Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED is required
  • Associates Degree is preferred

Equivalency

  • Education or native like ASL skills may substitute for experience, and experience or native like ASL skills may substitute for education

Minimum Education Required:

  • Associate degree required
  • Bachelor's degree is preferred

  • Education or native like ASL skills may substitute for experience, and experience or native like ASL skills may substitute for education

Minimum Education Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree is required

Equivalency

  • Education may substitute for experience, but experience may not substitute for education.

Experience: Level I

Minimum Experience Required:

  • Three years of directly related experience is required

Equivalency

  • Education or native like ASL skills may substitute for experience, and experience or native like ASL skills may substitute for education

Licensure & Certifications: Level I

License/Certification

  • Temporary Interpreting License is required

License/Certification

  • Temporary Interpreting License is required and must be maintained.
  • Must be actively working towards National Interpreting Certification.

License/Certification

  • National Interpreting Certification is required and must be a member in good standing
  • Full Interpreting License is required and must be maintained

Preferred Qualifications:

Job Duties:

  • 85% - Provides Direct Interpreting Services by facilitating communication between Deaf/Hard of Hearing individuals and University and Personal contacts related to the individuals in both the public and the private sectors. Requires a high level of critical thi - ()
  • 10% - Maintains skills and knowledge through continuing education opportunities and ensures compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures. - ()
  • 5% - Supports the office functions by completing all other duties and special projects as assigned - ()
