Supervisory Dietitian

Job Summary

The incumbent serve as a Clinical Dietitian, responsible for providing nutrition and dietetic services to patients at Saint Elizabeths Hospital (SEH), in the Department of Behavioral Health (DBH) and to supervise the day-to-day operations of the Forensic Food Service Unit, communicating serving instructions at pre-meal conferences and ensuring the maintenance of regular daily schedules for food service. In this supervisory role, the incumbent coordinates food service operations and reviews/revises work assignments to accomplish objectives and maintain distribution of duties in conformance with employee grades, approves leave requests of subordinates, and maintains discipline among Food Service staff. The incumbent has primary responsibility for serving as the provider of clinical nutrition support services required by patients, each having numerous specialties and specialized medical and psychiatric programs. The incumbent serves as nutrition expert advisor and consultant to the patients, health care teams, programs managers, department and associate directors, and nutrition staff. The incumbent assists in formulating and coordinating new developments and/or changes in Medical Nutrition Therapy and dietetic services. The incumbent ensures the implementation and utilization of current dietetic practices. The incumbent assists with menu design and approval.

Serves as a consultant in several areas of specialty to other dietitians and medical officers, where a substantial number of the patients require treatment for chronic problems.

Duration of Appointment: MANAGEMENT SUPERVISORY SERVICE (MSS)“AT WILL” EMPLOYMENT APPLIES TO THE MANAGEMENT SUPERVISORY SERVICE (MSS). ALL POSITIONS AND APPOINTMENTS IN THE MSS SERVE “AT THE PLEASURE OF THE APPOINTING AUTHORITY” AND MAY BE TERMINATED AT ANY TIME WITHOUT CAUSE.

RESIDENCY PREFERENCE AMENDMENT ACT OF 1988

A person applying for a position in the Career Service, Educational Service, Management Supervisory Service, a line attorney position in the Legal Service (series 905), or an attorney position in the Excepted Service (series 905) who is a bona fide District resident AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION for the position may be awarded a 10-point residency preference over non-District applicants, unless the person declines the preference points. If selected, the person shall be required to present no less than 8 proofs of bona fide District residency and maintain such residency for 7 consecutive years from the effective date of the appointment. Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the 7-year period will result in forfeiture of employment.

Position Designation: This position is deemed as “Safety Sensitive” pursuant to Section 410 of Chapter 4 of the D.C. Personnel Regulations, in addition to the general suitability screening, individuals applying for or occupying safety sensitive positions are subject to the following checks and tests:

  • Criminal background check;
  • Traffic record check (as applicable);
  • Pre-employment drug and alcohol test;
  • Reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol test;
  • Post-accident or incident drug and alcohol test;
  • Random drug and alcohol test; and
  • Return-to-duty or follow-up drug and alcohol test.

Tour of Duty: 7:30 am – 4:00 pm (Monday-Friday)

Qualifications

Thorough knowledge of the full range of food preparation principles, techniques and procedures in a health care dietary setting

Licensures, Certifications And Other Requirements

This position requires current registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR), the credentialing agency for the American Dietetic Association (ADA). Must be a Registered Dietitian (RD).

This position requires licensure with the District of Columbia Regulatory Agency (DCRA) and the incumbent must meet academic requirements of the Didactic Program in Dietetics as approved by the Commission on Dietetics. Must be a Licensed Dietitian (LD).

Education

This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university, in Nutrition and Dietetics, Institution Management, or Public Health Nutrition.

Work Experience

Extensive knowledge of Nutrition and Dietetics in order to serve as Supervisory Dietitian and knowledge of complex multi-phase clinical dietetic techniques in order to handle difficult, complex problems, for psychiatric client care.

Work Environment

Work is performed in a controlled environment and involves some exposure to moderate risk of accidents and requires following basic safety precautions. THIS POSITION REQUIRES A PRE EMPLOYMENT PHYSICAL.
