About the Position:


We are looking for an SVP of External Affairs who will be responsible for Corporate Communications, Government, and Labor Relations for the Company. This role will partner with legislative bodies, elected officials, state governmental and/or quasi-governmental agencies to represent and protect the Company’s business plans and interests. This role will also support all company-wide communications, including the development and implementation of a communications strategy and a broad and diverse range of business and marketing communications. In addition, this role will help drive the Company’s Labor Relations strategies. This is a unique opportunity for an enterprise role with an acquisitive, growing company.


Key Functions & Responsibilities:


I. Government Relations


• Monitors and communicates government activities that could impact the Company’s business, operations and customers.

• Assists senior leadership with strategic planning for known and potential regulatory activities related to the business and industry.

• Builds and maintains professional relationships with members of federal, state, and local government entities and agencies.

• Collaborates with industry advocates to build areas of common interest.

• Introduces legislative and public policy changes that will support company operations.


ΙΙ. Corporate Communications


• Develops and implements a communications strategy for the Company that builds and maintains a positive corporate brand.

• Oversees corporate communications and branding in various online and print platforms such as LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, and industry magazines, as applicable.

• In coordination with our Chief Technology Officer, oversees the development and maintenance of the corporate website including methods to deliver message, ease of navigation, and clarity of information; ensures that all content is current and relevant.

• Collaborates with Human Resources to provide consistent and timely information to employees through various communications programs.

• Acts as corporate spokesperson and responds to members of the media in a timely manner; composes and distributes press releases as needed.

• Develops and maintains positive professional relationships with various members of the media and government officials.

• Assists executive leadership in developing presentations, speeches, and other important corporate messages or talking points, as applicable.

• Develops, implements, and adheres to communications budget.

• Develops, composes, distributes, and implements policies to enhance the efficiency of the communications department and to further develop the building and maintaining of a positive corporate brand.


III. Labor Relations


• Implement and maintain the Company’s labor relations programs, policies and procedures.

• Serve as the conduit between the Company and Union officials, members and other representatives.

• Ensure satisfactory labor-management relations and help to interpret collective bargaining agreements (CBA).

• Serve as the Company's point of contact for investigations and responses to governmental agencies (e.g. NLRB, EEOC, and other federal, state, or local agencies).

• Consult and advise Human Resources and other managers of unionized employees to ensure compliance with the CBA.

Performs other related duties as assigned.


Qualifications:


• Ten+ years of experience in public relations, advocacy and public policy.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

• Organized with attention to detail.

• Superior ability to write in a journalistic style that is customary for corporate and external publications.

• Ability to offer sound media relations advice to senior leadership.

• Excellent managerial and organizational abilities.

• Excellent interpersonal skills.

• Ability to work with corporate management, employees, media, and the larger community.

• Ability to coordinate efforts of various teams in order to present a coherent message.

• Bachelors degree in Political Science, Government, English, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field preferred.

• Prior experience with Unions preferred.

• Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card required to work onsite – or ability to apply to obtain one if not in possession.
