1.0 Background
The Utility Systems department is looking for an Electrical Transmission and Distribution Engineer to augment the current staff due to the recent significant expansion of the site transmission and distribution system.
2.0 Scope
To provide staff augmentation for an electrical transmission and distribution engineer to work under the direction of the Transmission and Distribution System Manager/Engineer

2.0 Tasks And Delivery (Job Description)
Scope of Responsibilities
Under general supervision of the High Voltage Transmission and Distribution System Manager, support and assist in the day to day operation and maintenance of the Argonne National Laboratory electrical transmission and distribution system. The engineer provides technical and field troubleshooting guidance to field personnel along with managing the current maintenance program.

Specific Duties
As an Electrical Transmission and Distribution Engineer you will collaborate with a team to ensure the reliability, efficiency, and safety of electrical power delivery to the Laboratory customers. This role requires a strong understanding of high voltage electrical systems and the ability to work effectively under pressure in dynamic situations. The role requires 70% field work and 30% office work. The specific duties are listed below.

All activities, as they apply to work performed by self and working with others will be executed in compliance with Environment, Safety & Health (ES&H) and security responsibilities established by Argonne National Laboratory's ES&H policies, Safeguards and Security policies, work rules, and safe practices.

4.0 Work Location
Lemont campus, onsite with Utilities High Voltage team.
5.0 Work Schedule
This position is a standard Monday through Friday, 7a-3:30p position. Overtime may be required depending on specific projects or activities.
6.0 Technical Direction of Work
Reports directly to the High Voltage Transmission and Distribution System Manager/Engineer.
7.0 Government-Owned Property
The position will require an Argonne provided laptop computer and peripherals.
8.0 Security Requirements
Standard site access and access to locations containing electrical utility equipment.
9.0 Computer Protection Program
The contractor(s) may have root access to government computers and/or Business Information Systems. The contractor(s) shall adhere to all policies and procedures of the ANL Computer Protection Program, must not bypass any procedures established to protect data, applications, hardware, or communications at ANL, must maintain a work environment that will satisfy audit, privacy, and protection requirements, and must report any findings of inadequacies to the technical contact and the Argonne Cyber Security Representative.

The role requires 70% field work and 30% office work. The specific duties are listed below.
- Providing technical and troubleshooting support to field personnel during installation, commissioning, and maintenance activities
- Evaluating existing systems and proposing upgrades or modifications to enhance efficiency, reliability, and safety.
- Reviewing the current load flow, short circuit, and transient stability analyses to optimize system performance and reliability.
- Reviewing engineering specifications, drawings, and technical documents provided by design engineering firms or contractors.
- Conducting feasibility studies and cost-benefit analyses for proposed system maintenance and operational improvements or expansions.
- Collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders, including customers, utility companies, regulatory agencies, and contractors, to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Participating in project meetings, reviewing progress reports, and addressing any technical issues or challenges as they arise.
- Staying informed about advancements in electrical engineering technologies and best practices and incorporating new methodologies into project designs and strategies.
- Respond promptly to reports of high voltage electrical disturbances, outages, and emergencies.
- Document work performed, including troubleshooting steps, repairs made, and equipment status, for record-keeping and analysis purposes.
- Participate in training sessions and drills to enhance skills and preparedness for emergency response scenarios.
- Comply with all Laboratory and Division Environmental Safety and Health (ES&H) policies, work rules, and safe work practices.
3.0 Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Bachelor's degree in electrical power system engineering with 7+ years of experience in power distribution and system operation.
- Strong decision-making skills and the ability to prioritize tasks in high-pressure situations.
- Experience in system reliability along with predictive maintenance processes and methodologies is desired.
- Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software and electrical engineering simulation tools such as SKM.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to solve complex engineering problems.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
- Knowledge of industry standards and regulations related to electrical transmission and distribution systems, such as IEEE, NESC, and NERC.
- Strong organization and project management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work on multiple concurrent projects and to achieve desired goals on schedule and within budget.
