Position & Impact
You will be part of a core team, supporting transmission analysis related to the Company’s investment and development strategies. It is important to note that this is an operational role – the work you do will seed actual solar + storage investments across the US. Candidates should already have proven knowledge of the workings of US power markets – operations of IOU and ISOs in particular – applied experience shepherding grid applications, as well as the ability to perform deep research into network upgrades, transmission costs, load-flow.
Ideally, you will have work experience with an IOU, ISO or grid engineering shop, but we also look favorably on those with experience performing similar work with a US-based IPP or power markets consulting firm.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage all interconnection activities through the full life cycle of development and construction of solar PV + storage projects in the US.
- Track ISO / Utility transmission expansion plans, resource plans and interconnection regulations as they evolve.
- Participate in ISO transmission task forces, industry bodies related to transmission policies, FERC and related organizations to represent the Company’s position.
- Perform transmission system analysis including identifying potential solar + storage sites on the transmission grid working with the commercial analytics team. Provide subject matter expertise related to interconnection TOs and procedures. Support the preparation and filing of interconnection requests.
- Proactively track and manage transmission application risks across the ISOs.
- Follow the ISO / RTO IC processes and perform shadow system impact studies to identify future risks and opportunities around solar + storage IC, including network upgrade costs.
- Build and maintain relationships with all ISO/RTO POCs to harvest information and policy changes early, in order to provide maximum flexibility in our development and execution activities.
- Support interconnection due diligence materials around M&A efforts; take ‘transmission lead’ during M&A initiatives.
- Understand the Utility OATT definitions, perform cost sharing analysis for network upgrades triggered during the ISO studies.
- Maintain and periodically refresh IC design related Capex estimates for the projects.
- Support as needed in power system modeling including injection studies, load flow analysis and transmission curtailments.
Key Skills
- Familiarity with the Transmission systems and Interconnection processes across ISOs, especially PJM, MISO and SPP.
- Electrical engineering background and expertise with PSS/E/PSLF and TARA
- Knowledgeable around Utility OATT policies, transmission cost regulations, ISO transmission planning; background in Transmission project design, construction and cost estimates around sub-stations / transmission lines / switch yards and schedule management.
- Past experiences around solar + storage interconnection project designs.
