At Limitless Basketball we believe that coaching is more than just teaching the skills and rules of basketball. We believe in developing the complete student athlete to be resilient, dedicated, organized and hard working individuals. It is the responsibility of the coach to create a positive learning environment where the players learn fundamental skills and sportsmanship, teamwork, and responsibility. While winning is fun, it is more than winning at this level. Players' fundamental skill development is more important.

  • Expectations: Limitless emphasizes skill and fundamental development, respect, teamwork, cooperation, responsibility, and fun. Each participant should be provided the opportunity develop in these areas. In order to hold players accountable, coaches must model professional and responsible behavior at all times.

This includes:

  • Prompt/Early Arrival for every event: Coaches need to arrive 15-20 minutes early for practice to prepare and organize. Practice plans should be made in advance and equipment ready before players arrive. It is your responsibility to start practice on time. In the event of an emergency and you are going to be late, please call Dawaun Wells and let parents know with a message through the Limitless App or text message you are running behind. However, please know that tardiness and disorganization reflects poorly on the program as a whole, and will not be tolerated. You must be dependable and prompt attendance.
  • Professional and clean appearance. Please be mindful that you are representing a professional organization whose business is the education of impressionable youth. Coaches should wear Limitless gear to every Limitless practice, game or event unless otherwise designated. What you do on your own time is your personal life, but do not let it interfere with your professional coaching life. You are viewed as an educator and have a burden of responsibility to act and display yourself in a professional manner when in public. This includes being mindful of what is posted on your social media account, not smelling of tobacco or smoke products, not drinking alcohol in front of players or parents and looking the part of a coach.
  • Engagement and supervision: Coaches should be engaged with players the entire time at any event including practice, game or tournament. The use of personal cell phones and devices is highly discouraged and gives the perception of lack of interest or involvement with players. Please limit the use of cell phones to before or after an event and preferably out of view of parents and players. When at tournaments or practice facilities, if players are not accompanied by parents, (as may be the case during Covid restriction times), please keep players together and respectful to the facilities that we are at by sticking together, not running around or wandering the facility and not damaging property or using basketballs outside of the court. Staying focused on the event is key. Always clean up after ourselves on benches before leaving our bench. Modeling respect to the players on how to act in public, inside facilities, and during contests requires your diligent supervision.
  • Sportsmanship: We encourage sportsmanship at all times demonstrated through positive language with our own teammates, opponents and referees. Chatter with opposing benches or spectators is not allowed. Despite the outcome, we conduct ourselves with maturity and dignity.
  • Responsibilities
  • Coach team practices (In person or Zoom) and tournament games.
  • Complete an end of the season player evaluation for each player
  • The head coach is responsible for making a daily practice plan that is thought out and relative to specific teams areas of weakness and strengths while reinforcing basic concepts of skills and fundamentals. The responsibility falls on the coach for understanding their personnel. This way expectations can be met and players can improve.
    • Plans will be done and tracked in a google doc
  • Teach skills in developmentally appropriate stages.
  • Teach fundamental skills to the players while emphasizing skill development, competition, teamwork, sportsmanship, and fun.
  • Be on time to all practices and games.
  • Provide a safe environment for practice and games by checking the condition of the gym before each practice and enforcing current Covid protocols of temperature checks, ball and hand sanitizing and mask wearing.
  • Enforce all Limitless Basketball policies and rules.
  • Be responsible and supervise players until they are turned over to a parents or guardians before leaving the gym.
  • Qualifications:

Required

  • Coaching experience at any level (preferably two (2) years of exp)
  • Have playing experience (preferably at least at the high school level)
  • Must be self-directed, motivated, dependable and organized
  • Ability and interest in working with people of diverse backgrounds
  • Strong communication and mediation skills

Basketball Coach

  • Fall Season: November 5th-March 1st
  • Spring Season: March 15h-May 28th
  • 2 weekday team practices:
  • 6-8 Weekend tournaments: consisting of 1 or 2 day tournaments
  • Stipend $1000-$2000 per season
  • Position may lead to a part-time or full-time role
  • Separate skills training role maybe available.
