Position Summary: The OSP Technician plays a vital role in the OSP fiber team by facilitating the construction of a Fiber-to-the-Home network build within our Mid-West region. OSP Technicians will have the opportunity to move between different teams and learn skills such as operations of various heavy machinery including directional drills and other construction equipment, drop plows, and even how to splice fiber optic cable. This is an entry level position with plenty of opportunities for career advancement! OJT will be provided.

Position Type: Full-Time

Compensation: $18-20/hr based on experience with opportunity for advancement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe environment and ensure all safety standards are met.
  • Installation of outdoor fiber infrastructure and equipment
  • Assist with new construction
  • Operate various types of equipment including directional drills and plows to install underground fiber infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated attention to quality construction practices.
  • Prioritize tasks through to completion, as individual and team contributor.
  • Acquiring field data to be used for designing network routes
  • Ability to learn new technical systems and tools

Skills And Requirements

  • Must hold a valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation, Class A CDL with current medical card is preferred but not required
  • Ability to work outdoors 90% of the time
  • High School Diploma and or equivalent work experience
  • Experience with fiber network deployments preferred
  • Comfortable working on ladders
  • Basic mechanical skills
  • Basic computer networking skills and knowledge
  • Use of PC based applications to program and diagnose various communications equipment
  • Customer service oriented and professional in appearance

Education Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
