Reporting directly to the CEO, the Vice President, Human Resources (VPHR) oversees all functional areas of Human Resources throughout the full life cycle of an employee, from strategic recruitment and retention plans to the design and development of compensation, performance strategies, and other programs. This position serves as a senior human resources executive in the organization and provides guidance to the Executive Leadership Team, as well as management and individual contributors. The position requires a blend of strategic and tactical expertise.



Highlighted responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

· Strategic Leadership and HR Operations: Partner with the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) to define and achieve HR strategic and operational goals. Oversee the execution of recruitment, retention, compensation, and performance strategies. Manage all HR functions, including recruiting, onboarding, employee relations, performance management, compensation, benefits, offboarding, and compliance.

· Training, Development, and Organizational Planning: Develop and implement comprehensive training and organizational development plans that address personal, professional, and organizational needs. Lead strategic workforce and succession planning efforts to ensure the organization is equipped for future growth.

· Compensation, Benefits, and Total Rewards: Design and manage compensation strategies and benefit programs, including health, retirement, life insurance, and disability programs, in collaboration with the Professional Employer Organization (PEO). Ensure these programs support the attraction, retention, and motivation of talent.

· Compliance, Risk Management, and Legal Liaison: Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws across multiple states. Manage HR audits, mitigate legal risks, and advise on conflict resolution. Serve as the primary advisor on HR-related compliance issues.

· Workplace Culture and Engagement: Promote and enhance organizational culture, staff engagement, well-being, and productivity. Analyze HR metrics to assess progress, identify areas for improvement, and maintain alignment with strategic goals.

· Technology and Process Improvement: Evaluate and implement HR technology solutions to optimize data management and improve operational efficiency. Identify HR outsourcing opportunities and manage vendor relationships to ensure effective service delivery.

· Team Leadership and Development: Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate HR staff, fostering a high-performing team that supports the organization's goals and objectives.

Their strategic mindset is a guiding light that navigates both the big picture and finer details, ensuring that every aspect of HR aligns with the organization’s mission and goals, especially during periods of organizational growth and scale.


Change Management, Operations, and Technology

The ideal candidate excels in high-growth environments, seamlessly aligning change management with HR operations, compliance, and executive guidance. They craft and execute strategic training and development plans, optimizing HR processes through technology to keep the organization agile and aligned with strategic objectives. A people-focused leader with an eye for process improvement, they forecast and address organizational needs, manage change effectively, and navigate the complexities of a growing organization.


Compliance and Risk Management

The VPHR brings advanced expertise in HR compliance, particularly in managing multi-state employment laws for organizations near or at the 50-employee mark. They ensure adherence to state-specific laws, IRS guidelines, and fundraising regulations. With a deep understanding of employment laws, they proactively mitigate risk, resolve conflicts, and ensure HR practices remain ahead of the curve.


Communication and Collaboration

An exceptional communicator, the VPHR understands the importance of inspiring teams and building strong relationships across the organization. They articulate complex ideas clearly and motivate others to drive high performance and foster collaboration. They work cross-functionally to balance coaching and accountability, collaborate with executive leadership to set clear performance expectations, deliver regular feedback, conduct objective evaluations, and identify growth opportunities for employees.


Additional qualifications include:


· Bachelor’s degree required.

· An advanced degree in human resources (e.g., Organizational Development, Human Resources Management, Business Administration, Public Administration) or related field is desirable.

· SHRM or HRCI certification strongly preferred.

· Professional certifications (Certified HR Analytics Professional, Certified Professional in Learning and Performance, Certified Change Management Professional and/or Certified Diversity Professional) warmly welcomed.


Compensation & Benefits

Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. The salary range for this role is $150,000 - $180,000 with a generous benefits package. Highlighted benefits include four weeks’ paid vacation in addition to 10 office holidays and sick leave; fully employer-paid medical, vision and dental insurance for staff members; FSA and commuter benefits; EAP; life and disability insurance; and 401k plan with employer match and a 6% safe harbor contribution after one year.
