As the Vice President, Operations for the National Group you will provide overall management and direction for multiple projects in specific areas or with specific customers and aid the executive leadership team in formulating and administering organization policies to achieve overall company objectives.

Responsible for ensuring safety, quality, profitability, maximizing operating results, ensuring profitable growth, and fulfilling Harris' commitment to the community.

Contributes to the desired culture and safety of the organization and performs the following duties:

Leadership

  • Align and integrate the team with division and company goals. Deploy resources to best achieve these goals.
  • Lead and participate in the day-to-day operations with National Group Operations VP’s to obtain project objectives. Lead and be accountable for pre-construction, construction, and close out of all projects.
  • In partnership with EVP and National Group Operations VPs, establish and implement divisional policies, procedures, and organizational structure.
  • Develop, direct, and monitor short-term and long-range plans consistent with overall profit and growth objectives of the National team.
  • Monitor overall quantity and quality of work performed by your project teams.
  • Monitor and analyze operating results of the National team relative to established objectives to ensure that National team performance is satisfactory.

  • Develop, coach, advise and mentor team members to:
    • manage change, inspire confidence, be empowered, hold team members accountable,
    • support the strategic direction and operational needs of the company while meeting their own internal objectives,
    • build collaborative relationships across the company to assist in managing through the employee life cycle (e.g., plan, attract, retain, develop, measure, and advance employees)
    • and to cultivate and foster the desired Harris culture, values, and competencies.
  • Model and be an example for the Harris culture, values, and competencies.

Business Development & Key Client Relationships

  • Participate in business development activities, securing profitable work on a routine basis to achieve sales plan.
  • Initiate and maintain liaison with key clients to facilitate positive relationships and communication. Stay in constant contact with these customers to monitor and enhance our relationship with them.
  • Lead and direct project teams to ensure all sales activities, performance and sales plans are achieved.
  • Manage proposals and agreements within planned gross profit margin.
  • Proactively partner with all National Group Operations VP’s, Business Development and Marketing Communications to ensure alignment on proposals.

Financial Management

  • Review monthly financial reports and proactively manage financial aspects of assigned projects in conjunction with all National Group Operations VP’s.
  • Review projects, holding team members accountable while measuring productivity, managing gross margin and net profit with National Group Operations VP’s.
  • Oversee management of receivables, productivity, change orders and other impacts to business performance.
  • Achieve annual project performance expectations.
  • Proactively forecast expected business/project results on an ongoing basis and document accordingly.
    • Research/understand and be able to explain and/or justify specific assumptions used in business unit forecast.
    • Ensure the predictability of business results, based on forecast, assumptions, sales, backlog, etc.
  • Achieve project budgets including revenue, overhead, gross profit and net profit.
  • Manage all financial aspects of work activities.
  • Review and approve group’s major equipment purchases and capital expenditures.

Leadership Opportunities

  • Lead and/or sponsor various corporate/company-wide committees/initiatives as needed.
  • Perform additional assignments as required by the operating needs of the division or as directed by the EVP, Harris National or ELT.
  • Actively participate in Harris Strategic Team and company initiatives as requested

Safety

  • Perform site walkthroughs and inspections.
  • Assume site safety compliance by ensuring all safety requirements are being performed – this includes site specific safety plans, audits, tool box talks, pre-task planning and being proficient in using Industry safe.

Other Tasks and Duties: Other tasks and duties may be assigned as directed.

What We're Looking For In You

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or construction management preferred.
  • 15+ years advanced knowledge and proficiency of:
    • Mechanical Construction industry
    • Company operations
    • Customer relations
    • Business development and project sales strategies
    • Marketing
    • Estimating
    • Financial management & operations experience
    • Employee relations
  • 15+ years strong understanding of mechanical systems.
  • 15+ years strong ability to read and comprehend construction documents.
  • 15+ years construction and/or mechanical contracting knowledge/experience
  • Demonstrated ability to foster a collaborative team.
  • Proven ability to interact with and provide creative solutions for customers and clients.
  • Demonstrated negotiation skills
  • Demonstrated advanced use/knowledge of MS Office Suite
  • OSHA 30 a plus
  • PMP a plus

Pay Range: $182,844 - $292,551 per year

The actual salary offer will vary by candidate based on a wide range of factors such as specific skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
