Overview

The VP of Construction – Specialty Banners and 50k is the driving force in establishing the general direction, process and procedures, vision, strategy, and direction for the Construction teams supporting these areas of the business, including direct oversight of the Specialty and 50k construction teams. Works with Real Estate, Facilities, New Store Team, Development, Store Operations, Legal, HR, Marketing, Loss Prevention and IT to plan store opening schedules. Supports the Real Estate and Development departments through lease negotiations and leads a staff of construction professionals in the rollout of new stores, special projects, and open-store remodels. Maintains the “Construction Schedule” which is the corporate communication tool that all other departments plan to for new store goals. Partners with VP of Construction – House of Sport to ensure a seamless and consistent execution of processes across both teams. Works closely with Pre Construction and Architecture teams to accomplish key deliverables throughout the entire lifecycle of construction projects.

Responsibilities

  • Motivate, direct, and develop the Construction, Architectural Planning, Procurement & Finance, and Estimation teams to ensure a smooth construction process from ground-break to project close-out to deliver projects on time and budget.
  • Deliver clean on time store turnover to the New Store Team
  • Support Real Estate and Development departments during lease negotiations by providing construction cost information and defining landlord and tenant construction work scopes
  • Team with Store Planning to ensure new store construction specifications provide long term benefits that promote both efficiency and improved store operations.
  • Develop process improvements w/ new store construction ensuring all punch list items are completed on time, potential warranty issues are addressed and Store Manager feedback is reviewed.
  • Work closely with the Manager of Architecture and Design and 3rd party Architects to manage all new store prototypes.
  • Provide regular, timely status reports for all projects throughout the country to all effected departments

within the company, including senior management. Review and approve construction expenditures.

  • Provide value engineering ideas to improve prototype constructability & reduce construction costs & durations.
  • Assemble a team of in-house and outside consultants and coordinate workflow between groups to ensure jobs are taken from lease execution to store opening as quickly as possible
  • Develop and maintain approved and preferred General Contractors for self-developed and build to suit projects.
  • Prepare budget estimates for landlord and tenant financed projects ranging in cost up to $12M each
  • Review and approve construction expenditures
  • Develop and manage large capital and expense budgets. Conduct weekly review of capital and expense plans to manage to budget.
  • Work closely with finance to develop accurate budgets and forecasts

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Architectural Engineering, Construction Management or Architecture
  • 10+ years in upper management level position with a national or regional retail chain or multi-unit facility organization, preferably experience with a “big box” retailer
  • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of facilities, construction,

building maintenance and energy management systems.

  • Novar Energy Management software knowledge a plus
  • TRIRIGA Facilities Management System & Service Channel System
