Vice-President of Sales

Company Overview: The Ultra-met Company is a leading independent manufacturer of tungsten carbide products for fabricators and tool makers that will be used in a wide range of industries such as the automotive, aerospace, medical, petroleum, and woodworking industries. Our products primarily consist of cutting tools and wear products. The manufacturing process involves making tungsten carbide powder, pressing, forming, sintering, and grinding operations. We are a locally owned, privately held, long-term growth-oriented company.
Summary: In this key role, the Vice President of Sale’s primary responsibility is to grow Ultra-met’s Ohio-made tungsten carbide and cermet products. This will be achieved through mentoring and coaching the salesforce and managing new projects. As a member of the Senior Management Team, this role is responsible for producing results and being accountable for the achievement of growth targets established during strategic planning. Our markets include, but are not limited to, oil and gas/downhole, woodworking, medical, mining, and wear parts. This position reports to the President and will interface with all UM departments to achieve new-market growth goals.

Specific responsibilities include:
- Lead our sales team of seven Outside Sales/Business Development Managers
- Coach, mentor, inspire, and motivate sales team to achieve sales targets
- Keep informed of changes in all markets and develop countermeasures to mitigate concerns
- Work closely with Operations to ensure communication with customers
- Promote teamwork between sales and all other departments to build a cohesive team
- Expand current sales of standard product lines
- Grow future offerings by developing new products
- Cultivate and present objective data to provide direction to achieve sales targets
- Control expenses to meet budget guidelines
- Maintain positive relationships with current customers while attracting future business
- BS degree in business or technical field
- Significant and specific business development or sales experience in the carbide market preferred (cutting tools, wear plates/pads, mining, earthworks, downhole, etc.)
- Must understand machining, metalworking technologies, carbide grades, geometries, coating, and applications.
- Previous senior sales management experience required, or a minimum of 15 years related experience.
- High degree of analytical skills with a degree in business management, engineering, or equivalent experience in industrial carbide product sales.
- Must be able to perform mathematical calculations applicable to product application, and able to read blueprints.
- Success in building new markets in similar fields
- Proven ability to manage all account responsibilities for major accounts.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- General computer skills including Office, Word, Excel, Power point.
- The assignment of sales calls for daily travel with 60% over nights.
- Must possess a current valid driver’s license for his/her state of primary residence.
- Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently.
- Must be legally eligible to work in the United States.
