The journey of Mariamman Women's Self-Help Group in ThenAmbadi Village, Pandalur Taluk, Nilgiri District, is a testament to the transformative power of unity. Recently, during their monthly meeting, a strong sense of community teamwork resonated in every conversation. Thanks to the committed contributions of our volunteer Pushpa, the monthly regular meetings have evolved into a source of positive transformation for the women in the group. So far, 13 Self Help Groups with 12-15 members each have been initiated in the Betta Kurumba community since 2022 and each Self Help Group has opened the door for community women to improve themselves or acquire new knowledge on various aspects such as personal hygiene, environment, human rights, or even gaining self-sufficiency through skill development. At this meeting, two events took place. Firstly, Individual passbooks were distributed to each member, a commitment to transparent financial dealings. These passbooks keep track of all their savings and loans and help them to understand their finances better. Secondly, the Women's group talked about important things that needed prompt attention in their village:  1. Drinking Water Facilities  2. Safe Motorable Roads  3. Street Lights in Key Areas  4. Electricity Connections for Every Home  5. A Village Community Hall We hope that these initiatives will lead to noticeable improvements in their own community, helping the local women to advocate for their own needs through awareness and education. Nirmaan's commitment to holistic development in the Nilgiris since 2016 extends beyond financial inclusion. Through the platform of Self-Help Groups, especially focusing on women, we have been fostering sustainable livelihoods. Poultry farming has become a catalyst for economic independence, complemented by skill development programs in doll making and handcraft tailoring.
