Excited to share the publication of our recent essay in the Journal of Architectural Education (JAE) 77.2 titled 'Tactical Landscapes: Abstractions and Power Practices.' In collaboration with Saphiya, Aseel, and Asaiel, we delve into the desert as a dynamic canvas, simultaneously a product and producer of cultural, social, and political complexities. Our exploration uncovers the impact of tribal, colonial, and global conflicts on state planning, shaping a distinctive geospatial division between urban and desert life. Brief description of the project: The relationship of architecture and philosophy is complex, and understanding of this relationship depends understanding the true philosophy. Greek philosophers search for something that be the base of everything, and in the pursuit of what which is the basis for everything search for the definition of world as a regular AAA whole . Accordingly, in the implementation of this order, we see that the appropriateness of governing the dimensions of the Greek temples intervals between the columns or connection between different parts of the facade with the ratios governing therefore has a logical match and other productions of Culture in the Greek civilization, like music has also logical connection with architecture and metaphysics, and contemplating on this connection shows that how much metaphysical or Greek thinking is architectural and logical thinking and how much is affected by space architects.

My new publication, "Urban Activated Public Spaces in the Contemporary City", appeared as Chapter 15 in the collective volume Federico Bellentani, Mario Panico, and Lia Yoka (eds.), Semiotic Approaches to Urban Space. Signs and Cities, Edward Elgar Publishing, Cheltenham, Massachusetts, 2024 Summary What kinds of spaces and places are needed today, in light of the radical social changes and new ecological problems that have emerged in contemporary cities? Can we design contemporary “activated” urban public spaces for youth, and what could be their symbolic and material characteristics? The aim of the present chapter is to investigate the possible philosophical, conceptual, semiotic, and architectural dimensions, approaches, and readings of the above spatial questions, based on the theoretical work and ideas of Emeritus Professor Kyriaki Tsoukala.

As an experienced carpenter specializing in the restoration of 18th-century clerestory buildings in Virginia, I've encountered numerous challenges that arise from a general misunderstanding of these historical structures by untrained builders. Clerestory buildings, characterized by their high windows above eye level, were designed to provide natural light and ventilation, a concept often overlooked in modern architecture. This fundamental aspect of their design is frequently misunderstood, leading to improper renovations that compromise both the aesthetic and functional integrity of these historic buildings. In my work, I've seen many instances where untrained builders have attempted to "modernize" these structures without respecting their original design. For example, replacing original woodwork with modern materials not only detracts from the building's historical authenticity but also affects its durability. The wood used in the 18th century was often old-growth timber, which is denser and more resistant to decay than most wood available today. Ignoring this, untrained builders often use less suitable materials, leading to a faster degradation of the structure. Another common issue is the mismanagement of the clerestory windows themselves. These windows are crucial for light and air circulation, yet I've seen many cases where they have been inappropriately sealed or replaced with glass that doesn't match the period. Such alterations not only disrupt the building's historical character but also its internal climate control, which was originally designed to rely on natural ventilation. It's essential to use restoration techniques that maintain the original functionality of these windows while preserving their historical appearance. https://lnkd.in/gH3TtTmJ
