As a career changer, experimenting and exploring has led me to understand where my skills lie and what drives me. It has allowed me to develop a generalised view and make connections where others may not. I am grateful for my non-linear path, but did not understand how common and how correlated with success it was until coming across David Epstein’s work; ‘In the wider world, in which challenges and assumptions fluctuate and problems are ill-defined, being a generalist is a lifehack. It can help people make interdisciplinary connections and problem-solve across a wide range of experiences. Specialising too early in life can be detrimental, and feeling “stuck” in a poorly-matching career due to the fear of transitioning or switching can be counterproductive. Most disciplines have transferable skills, and past experience in a different field can enhance your performance in your second-act career.’ It may be more productive therefore to keep exploring until you find your fit! #careerchange #productivity #skills #knowledge

Business marketing student at Alabama State University seeking to get a position as a social media intern where I can use my marketing knowledge to create unique social media techniques that increases business success.
October 16, 2024 Yesterday, I had the pleasure of attending an incredibly insightful "Key to Success" session with Mr. Xavier Peoples and Mr. Marcus Wordlaw from Neuberger Berman. They shared valuable life lessons and career advice that I’m eager to put into action. Here are a few key takeaways: - Take Initiative: Don't wait for opportunities—go out and seek new experiences to expand your skillset. - Continuously Learn: Always research, learn, and seize every opportunity to grow in your career. - Network & Give Back: Building relationships and contributing to your community are vital to personal and professional growth. - Be Yourself: It’s not just about IQ, but emotional intelligence. In interviews and the workplace, authenticity matters more than fitting in. - Stick with Your Plan: Every step, no matter how small, contributes to the bigger picture. Stay focused on your goals. - Find Your Story: Embrace what makes you unique—it’s your story that will set you apart. Thank you, Mr. Peoples and Mr. Wordlaw, for sharing these powerful insights. The Art of Walking Away: A Career Accelerator In the high-stakes game of career advancement, knowing when to walk away from a deal is as crucial as sealing one. It’s a bold statement of self-belief and a testament to one’s integrity. Walking away isn’t about admitting defeat; it’s about recognising when a situation doesn’t align with your values or the outcomes you’re capable of delivering. It’s about not settling for less than what you and your clients deserve. Remember, if you’re not moving forward, you’re standing still. And sometimes, the best way to move forward is to take a step back from a deal that doesn’t serve you. Believe in your solution, especially when you know it’s the only way to meet client expectations. Have the courage to back yourself. After all, integrity isn’t just a virtue—it’s the cornerstone of a career built to last and thrive. #CareerGrowth #IntegrityInBusiness #professionaldevelopment
