This year stands out as one of the strongest LVMH Prizes. Congratulations to HODAKOVA for winning this year’s award , and to Standing Ground and Duran Lantink for receiving the Savoir-Faire and Karl Lagerfeld awards, respectively. It’s truly inspiring to see designers we know prioritizing their craft and the impact of their designs above all else. Hodakova’s strong commitment to sustainability, Michael’s (Standing Ground) artistic sensibility, and Duran’s innovative and fearless work are what truly shined today. We hope they receive the long-term recognition and support they deserve.

It’s time to close the gap between design and production. Our new partnership wants to do just that. Meaningful design and true sustainability can be pushed beyond our imagination when new technologies, expertise, and innovative materials are integral parts of the design process. As part of a larger initiative to bridge the gap between design and production, we teamed up with the world’s first design-led tannery ECCO Leather B.V. to offer independent designers full access to ECCO’s in-house research and design teams and cutting-edge facilities, allowing them to create in an environment free from commercial constraints. The first designers to gain access to the programme are KNWLS, Johanna-Maria Parv , Duran Lantink , and Charlie Constantinou . We’re excited to share more and start a conversation about a new way of doing fashion, where the process is as important as the final product: https://lnkd.in/eNNCPAMJ

Historically, the weißensee academy of art berlin was situated in the eastern part of the city, which was under Russian rule. At that time, it was known as the East Berlin Academy of Art, where students created art and fashion under oppressive conditions. Political awareness is embedded in the university’s DNA, and designers are encouraged to reflect on the current state of the world. This year, some designers have woven political messages into explorations of personal themes:

What makes a fashion student hireable? Ryan White spoke with the Chair and Professor of Fashion Design at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit Aki Choklat about his perspective on fashion education in 2024 and what advice he’d give those on the fence about studying it and taking on debt.

Don’t wait for New Year’s Resolutions to make changes. That nagging feeling in your stomach is trying to tell you something. In our latest Substack letter, we explore how to positively shift our mindset around quitting. This shift can boost creative thinking, solution-finding, and planning for better futures, while also helping us come to terms with our losses. Yes, closing your brand is tough, but do you really want to invest another $50k into it? Yes, it’s difficult to leave your degree program in the second year, but if you can’t envision a career in that field, isn’t it better to pursue a different path? Letting go isn’t a failure; it’s a new beginning. So, how and when is the best way to approach it?

“In France, you stay in the office till late because people need to see you staying late. You don’t have much to do, which is completely ridiculous. You can do your job and leave, go home to do something else,” a print designer shared with us, reflecting on her experience in luxury. It is time we talk about our personal responsibility towards changing the industry’s working standards. The silent antagonism of who is working more—a race that begins at the fashion school library and continues in luxury and independent fashion studios—is a vital factor in what makes fashion a rough terrain. A contest of merit and talent becomes a rivalry of stamina and availability. Is the lack of boundaries a fashion professional’s most valuable talent? In the second part of our “I Want a Baby but I Work in Fashion” series, we explore our individual relationships with work to consider the control we have over our life decisions and seek practical advice on becoming a parent in the fashion industry:
