PUBLICATION ALERT! I wrote about the significance of diversifying data in developing a maritime risk profile, which could be pivotal in creating comprehensive Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA) and Maritime Situational Awareness (MSA) pictures. Understanding that stability at sea is influenced by stability on land makes it apparent that offshore risks extend to onshore risks. Thus, their causative factors need to be considered when building a risk profile. The article delves into coastal armed conflicts and how Violent Non-State Actors (VNSAs), after acquiring maritime threat-inflicting capabilities, can become crucial contributors to the threat landscape at sea. It then discusses the need to broaden the sources of data collection for MDA and MSA purposes by including agents of violence oriented towards land. Read more: https://lnkd.in/gbq6Ftdq

We are excited to be working on the The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) Climate and Disaster Resilience Pilot 2024 to develop the Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) for the United States. As part of one of the main objectives for the Pilot, we are continuing to develop a standards registry that makes geospatial standards more discoverable, accessible and digestible to expand standards compliance and further improve interoperability among geospatial technologies. This includes standards from ISO, OGC, FGDC and more. Also, we are are excited to see the new DoD NDIS Strategy that highlights key actions to support some of our standards development and implementation. This is a first of its kind that will lay out long term guidance on DoD actions and resource prioritization with the aim of creating a modern and resilient defense industrial ecosystem: https://lnkd.in/gkU_Sp2x A big thanks to our team at the Federal Geographic Data Committee GeoPathways Program as well as our organization and business partners for their contributions: Rachel Opitz, Eldrich Frazier, Sophia B Liu, Ph.D., Maria Gilmore, Shawn Ricard, Leon Norfleet, Sofia Perez de Tudela, Luke Webb, John Swanson, Alex Bostic, Brian Goldin, Mark M., Amanda K. If you have been following along you likely understand the value of reliable connectivity in mission critical environments. If you are looking for portable, enterprise grade connectivity, I have the answer. NEWCOM partners with the best manufacturers to bring our customers solutions that perform in the harshest conditions. When I first learned about Plum Laboratories Inc. and their portable connectivity cases I was sold. Who else can get a signal 70 miles from the nearest tower? Plus they leverage Cradlepoint, part of Ericsson routers! Options for all scenarios, including Satellite connectivity. Let me know if this is something you need at your organization.
One of the most fundamental needs for responders in a natural disaster or emergency situation is reliable communication. As Emergency Response Teams race against the clock to scale their services, Plum Laboratories Inc. Plum Cases provide reliable, secure, and portable internet at the flip of a switch. This allows response teams to connect immediately in the field and focus on saving lives when critical network components fail. TSS Represented by: Advanced Technical Marketing (ATM) www.atm1.com sales@atm1.com Ounce of Prevention: Comparing the Costs of Deterring Widescale Disaster Electromagnetic pulse could cause widespread societal collapse, yet it’s received very little prioritization and funding relative to other disasters. In this blog post, we break down the resources allocated to several external threats and compare them to those currently dedicated to EMP. We’ll look at how and why this should be remedied, including the estimated cost of adequately strengthening the grid. Read Blog: https://lnkd.in/eQZ3JMPz

Across the world, millions of civilians live just kilometers away from conflict zones—each individual data point representing a personal story of survival and resilience. The Conflict Exposure Calculator, created by Armed Conflict Location & Event Data Project (ACLED) and WorldPop, helps us understand just how many people are affected by conflict. This tool doesn't just quantify—it contextualizes the civilian impact of conflicts by integrating precise event data with population estimates. It's a vital resource for anyone committed to making data-driven decisions that protect and empower these vulnerable populations. Explore the tool to learn how these data can inform real-world change: https://lnkd.in/gUbx2Tgt
