This certification is not just a title; it represents our commitment to meeting high standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. What does being a B Certified Corporation mean? B Corp Certification is awarded by B Lab, a nonprofit organization that serves a global movement of people using business as a force for good. To become certified, a company must undergo a rigorous assessment that evaluates its impact on its workers, customers, community, and the environment. Why is this important for product development companies? For product development companies, being a B Certified Corporation is particularly significant: 1. Innovation with Responsibility: It encourages companies to innovate responsibly, ensuring that the development and manufacturing of products do not harm the environment but rather contribute positively to the world. 2. Building Trust: It builds trust with consumers, investors, and business partners who are increasingly prioritizing sustainability and ethical practices in their decision-making processes. 3. Attracting Talent: It helps in attracting and retaining employees who are motivated by values and want to work for a company that is about more than just profits. 4. Improving and Benchmarking Performance: The certification process provides a framework to measure a company’s social and environmental performance and set benchmarks for improvement. Becoming a B Certified Corporation is a clear indicator that a company is dedicated to not just being the best in the world, but being the best for the world. This approach is essential as we move towards a more sustainable and socially conscious business environment. By adhering to these standards, we ensure that our product development processes contribute positively to our stakeholders and the planet, setting us apart in the competitive industry landscape. https://bit.ly/3UPz7l9

My quick talk and an analysis of which standards support which SDGs. Surprisingly ISO 22301 and ISO 22316 do not get linked to any ISO standard (not found on the ISO website at the time I conducted the analysis).

With the passing of another International Accreditation Day last weekend, it provides us with time to reflect on the crucial role that accreditation plays in ensuring quality and trust across various sectors. Robinson Management Services Ltd. ONLY work with accredited certification bodies to ensure credible certification for our clients. Understanding Accreditation vs. Certification Accreditation of Certification Bodies: Accreditation is the formal recognition by an authoritative body that a certification body is competent to carry out specific certification tasks. This process involves a rigorous assessment of the certification body’s processes, technical competence, and compliance with international standards. Accreditation ensures that certification bodies operate impartially, consistently, and reliably. Certification Services Provided by Certification Bodies: Certification, on the other hand, is the process by which certification bodies evaluate and confirm that products, services, management systems, or personnel meet specified requirements. While certification provides assurance to consumers and businesses that certain criteria are met, the integrity and trustworthiness of the certification itself depend heavily on whether the certification body is accredited. The Role of UKAS in the UK: In the UK, the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) is the national accreditation body responsible for assessing and accrediting certification bodies. UKAS play a pivotal role in: Maintaining Standards: Ensuring that certification bodies meet stringent national and international standards. Fostering Trust: Building confidence among consumers and businesses by guaranteeing that accredited certification bodies are competent and impartial. Supporting Innovation: Helping industries adopt best practices by ensuring their certification processes are credible and reliable. It is important to recognise the important work done by accreditation bodies like UKAS in upholding the quality and integrity of certification bodies. Their efforts not only support business growth but also protect consumers and ensure fair trade practices globally. #InternationalAccreditationDay #Accreditation #Certification #UKAS #Assurance #Standards #Trust #Compliance #ISO

B Corp certification isn't a one-size-fits-all approach. While it welcomes businesses across many sectors to join the mission of using business as a force for good, B Lab carefully evaluates the potential social and environmental impact of each industry. This ensures that certified B Corps truly align with the core values of sustainability, transparency, and positive community engagement. Some industries are excluded from B Corp certification due to the inherent challenges they present. For example, fossil fuel companies might struggle to meet environmental impact goals. Similarly, gambling and certain financial practices can raise ethical concerns regarding responsible business practices. You can find a complete list of excluded industries on the B Lab website (link to B Lab website: https://lnkd.in/gdJJqYjU). This focus on aligning with a positive social and environmental mission is what sets B Corp certification apart and ensures that certified companies are truly committed to making a difference. #getbcorpcert #bcorp #purposedrivenbusiness #growgood #purposefuelledperformance #getpurposeatwork #sustainability #bbetter #inpursuitofpurpose #impact #bcorpconsultant #bcorps #bcorpcertified #greenbusiness #businessforgood

Is B-Corp right for your business? B Lab B-Corp certification is arguably the most comprehensive social and environmental business assessment in the world today. It’s not just a badge—it's a rigorous evaluation of your company’s impact on society and the environment. But is it the right move for your business? One of the simplest yet most powerful elements of B-Corp certification is that it enables a business to define its baseline and build on it. Establishing this foundation makes it much easier to commit to incremental improvement, a core value that’s essential for tackling the environmental crisis. Is your business ready? If your business is at a stage where your team has the capacity to formalise policies, institutionalise standards, and handle a significant amount of paperwork, then yes, B-Corp certification is worth considering. However, if you’re in the bootstrapping phase, ending each day with a longer to-do list than when it started and just trying to build momentum and survive, it might be wise to wait. That said, it’s still worth exploring the B Impact Assessment (BIA) to help you build a solid foundation that aligns with the ethical and environmental requirements of B-Corp. This approach allows you to integrate these principles into your policies and frameworks from the outset, setting you up for success when the time is right to pursue certification. Timing is everything. B-Corp can be a powerful tool for growth and accountability, but only when your business is ready. Assess where you are now and decide if it’s the right time to open up the B-Corp can of worms. We’ve supported many businesses through the environmental section of their B-Corp certification.
