Because I’m an Exceedingly Important Person, I was being interviewed by a journalist last week. (And also, partially, because the Seattle Museum of History & Industry is doing a retrospective of the TV show I produced here for 15 years, "Almost Live!".) During the interview, I recalled that the TV station I worked for at the time—KING-TV—was widely considered to be one of the best—if not THE best—local TV stations in the country. In fact, when I would go to national broadcast events, and people found out I worked for KING, they would say things like, “Oh my god, you are SOOOO lucky!” “I always wanted to work for them!” “Do they have any openings? I’ll do ANYTHING!” Why these responses? Because KING was known for being one of the most innovative TV stations in the business. That reputation made it a magnet for top talent, both on-screen and off. Flash forward to today, and it seems like everyone is having trouble attracting, recruiting, and retaining top talent. I hear it all the time, and I’m sure you do too. Maybe you’re even experiencing this in your business. The solution is not difficult to fathom.
