Celebrating Pride Month 🎉 : Embracing Inclusivity 🤝 and Uncovering Unconscious Biases 🤔 June is Pride Month 🏳️🌈, a time to celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community and promote visibility and acceptance. As we join in these celebrations, it's essential to focus on inclusivity and the impact of unconscious biases. Inclusivity: A Cornerstone of Pride 👥 Inclusivity means creating spaces where everyone feels welcome and valued. It’s about ensuring that all voices, 🗣️especially those historically marginalised, are heard. By embracing diversity, we enrich our communities and foster a sense of belonging for everyone. Addressing Unconscious Biases 🔍 Unconscious biases are hidden judgments that influence our behaviour. Acknowledging and addressing these biases is crucial for true inclusivity. Steps to mitigate unconscious biases: Self-Reflection: Reflect on your attitudes and beliefs 🧠 Education: Learn about LGBTQ+ history and struggles 📚 Active Listening: Engage with and listen to LGBTQ+ individuals 👂 Inclusive Language: Use gender-neutral terms and respect pronouns Challenge Stereotypes: Question stereotypical representations 🙅♀️ Advocate for Change: Promote inclusive policies and practices ⚖ Moving Forward Together This Pride Month, let's commit to fostering inclusivity and challenging our unconscious biases. Together, we can create a world where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued. Happy Pride Month! 🌈 #PrideMonth #Inclusivity #UnconsciousBias #LGBTQ #CelebrateDiversity #EqualityForAll

Please join us in celebrating LGBTQ+ Pride Month! We invite you to embrace this at your organization and find different ways to celebrate with your staff. Here are a few suggestions: 1. Cater a celebration lunch for your staff with a few different dishes from local LGBTQ+ restaurants. Have a presentation or a topic to foster learning and discussion during the lunch. Encourage your LGBTQ+ staff members to lead the discussion. 2. Send out weekly emails highlighting one or two contributions or important cultural and historical impacts of people from the LGBTQ+ community. Include a list of recommended books by LGBTQ+ authors that coincide with the email highlight. 3. Send out a list of local LGBTQ+ events and celebrations and encourage your staff to attend. Then ask them to share something they learned. 4. Highlight your LGBTQ+ staff members through short biographies that include some of their specific contributions to the organization and things they wish to share about their family, history, and culture. Make sure you have their permission before doing so. 5. Have an open dialogue and meet consistently with your LGBTQ+ staff to assist in providing a more inclusive environment at your organization. This should be constant throughout the whole year, not just during Pride Month but Pride Month is a good place to start if you're not already doing this. These are just a few of the many ways you can celebrate at your organization to help inspire learning and discussion, and to promote inclusion and belonging within your team. #pridemonth #LGBTQ #inclusion #belonging #diversity #hr #humanresources #culture #communication

Yesterday, you likely saw memes about companies “abandoning” their LGBTQ+ support on July 1st – tearing down their rainbow logos faster than dodgy wallpaper on an HGTV show 🤦♀️ This performative support is called rainbow-washing. Not to be a buzzkill (I’m about to be), but it’s time to ask companies what they’re doing to support LGBTQ+ employees year-round. As an LGBTQ+ person myself, it’s blindingly obvious when a workplace is just talking the talk. Because queer folk don’t just exist in June, I’ve put together this carousel showing where we can be found all 365 days. Swipe through for some eye-opening stats and insights! ✨ But, when we favour rainbow-washing over effective DE&I initiatives, we let these people down. How can we better support LGBTQ+ folk all year round? 🌈 Explicitly mention LGBTQ+ people in inclusive policies 📝 Make these policies as clear as possible 🧑🏼🤝🧑🏿 Kickstart a committee or network for LGBTQ+ employees 💪 Have leadership communicate their support 🏆 Outwardly celebrate your inclusive journey and milestones 🎓 Provide access to tools, education, and resources for all employees While these are just a few ways to encourage inclusivity – what is your company doing to support their LGBTQ+ employees? #DEI #pridemonth #inclusivity #LGBT #LGBTQ #lovewins

🌈 Celebrating Pride Month: Why It Matters to Me 🌈 As Pride Month begins, I find myself reflecting on the significance of this time for both the LGBTQ+ community and for me personally. This month is a celebration of love, acceptance, and the ongoing fight for equality. For me, Pride Month is a reminder of the importance of inclusivity in every aspect of our lives. It’s also important to reflect on how far we have come. I grew up in a small country town in the 80’s and 90’s. Discovering who I was, was not easy and did not come without its challenges. I have been bullied, harassed and even discriminated against. However, none of this has stopped me in continuing to pave the path for others and work towards creating a safe space for everyone to be themselves. I know that acceptance and support can change lives. Friends and family members who are part of the LGBTQ+ community have shown me the strength it takes to live authentically and the beauty that can come from being true to oneself. In my professional journey, I’ve strived to create and support environments where everyone feels safe and valued, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. I believe that diversity is not just a goal, but a strength that drives innovation and fosters a sense of belonging. This Pride Month, I encourage all of us to: 1. Listen and Learn: Open our hearts and minds to the experiences of the LGBTQ+ community. Their stories are powerful and deserve to be heard. 2. Support and Advocate: Whether through allyship, volunteering, or advocating for inclusive policies, let’s take tangible steps to make a difference. 3. Celebrate Authenticity: Embrace and celebrate our own identities and those of others. Let’s create spaces where everyone can thrive as their true selves. Together, we can build a more inclusive and compassionate world. Happy Pride Month! 🏳️🌈 #PrideMonth #LGBTQ #Inclusion #Diversity #Equality #Pride2024

🌈 Happy Pride Month! 🌈 As we celebrate Pride Month, it's crucial to remember that lifting all voices and embracing diversity enriches our communities, workplaces, and lives. This month is more than just a celebration; it's a reminder of the ongoing fight for equality and the need to support each other, especially LGBTQ+ colleagues. Creating inclusive workplaces where everyone can be their authentic selves is vital for fostering innovation, creativity, and productivity. Let’s take this opportunity to amplify voices that often go unheard, share stories that inspire, and stand together in solidarity. In my own journey, I have fostered that same diversity by uplifting voices, holding seminars and organized annual drag shows with past companies to showcase the amazing history and communities we have here in the DMV area. These experiences continue to show me the power of inclusion and the incredible talent and strength within my LGBTQ+ community. Let us also honor and remember the trailblazers who have paved the way to where we are now. Their courage and resilience have opened doors and inspired countless individuals to live openly and proudly. Here are a few ways to get involved and show your support: Listen and Learn: Attend webinars, read articles, and engage in conversations to understand the challenges faced by the LGBTQ+ community. Support LGBTQ+ Businesses: Purchase from LGBTQ+-owned businesses and support initiatives that promote equality and inclusivity. Be an Ally: Speak up against discrimination and advocate for policies that protect LGBTQ+ rights in the workplace and beyond. Let's make Pride Month a time of celebration, education, and action. Together, we can create a world where everyone is valued and respected for who they are. 🎉🏳️🌈 #PrideMonth #InclusionMatters #LiftAllVoices #LGBTQ+ #CelebrateDiversity 🎉

🌈 Is your organization ready to turn a month of awareness into a lifetime of inclusion? 🌈 As we wrap up Pride Month, let’s reflect not just on the vibrant celebrations but on the substantial lessons we've learned. Throughout June, we've shared insights and stories under the theme "From Moment to Movement: Embedding Inclusion in Organizational DNA." These narratives have not only highlighted the importance of celebrating LGBTQ+ rights and equality but have underscored the need for continuous action beyond this month. Inclusion isn’t just a checkbox or a once-a-year event; it is a journey that requires commitment, persistence, and evolution. It’s about building workplaces that not only recognize diversity but actively celebrate and integrate it every day. How can we ensure that the colorful momentum of Pride doesn’t fade into the background as the calendar pages turn? 🌟 Tip: Start with a diversity audit. Understand where your organization stands and where it needs to go. This can illuminate unseen biases and pave the way for meaningful change. 👥 Try This: Implement regular, structured educational programs that address not only LGBTQ+ issues but all facets of diversity. Make these sessions part of your regular training schedule to keep the dialogue open and ongoing. 📢 Call to Action: Commit to making your workplace a beacon of inclusivity. If you're in a leadership role, pledge to foster an environment where every voice is heard and valued year-round. What steps will you take to ensure your organization’s inclusivity journey is not only enduring but also evolving? Share your action plan in the comments below! Let’s move from moment to movement together. #PrideMonth #InclusionInAction #DiversityAndInclusion #Leadership #ContinuousImprovement

Amidst the vibrant celebrations of Pride Month, one film recommendation that deeply resonated with me was Call Me by Your Name. Beyond its poignant portrayal of love and self-discovery, the film offers a beautiful tale of a 17 year old Elio understanding his sexual orientation. What took me by surprise is the revelation that his parents were aware and in fact orchestrated the process of self-discovery and exploration. As organizations celebrate pride month and show their commitment towards supporting those from the LGBTQ+ community I wonder how many of us are championing this in our personal spaces. The movie offered valuable insights: 💛 Allyship begins at home. 💙 Belonging is when you feel accepted for who you are. 💜 Acceptance is hard but can be most rewarding to lead fulfilled lives. 👉 Organizations are wired to reward sameness - same college, same previous organization, same club, same style of dressing, same sport. 🔻 The cookie cutter landscape of our organizations and teams needs to welcome people for who they are rather than continue to promote sameness. 🌈 How can you contribute to promoting LGBTQ+ inclusivity in your workplace this Pride Month and beyond? #PrideMonth #LGBTQ #Allyship #Intersectionality #Belongingness #Inclusion #Diversity #Equality

Its National Inclusion Week (created by Inclusive Employers) and this year's theme is Impact Matters. Here at Reed, members of our Inclusion Working Groups are taking the week to look at the impact our work to date has had so far, as well as the impact we aim to have in the year ahead. As one of our LGBTQ+ Ambassadors I have been able to see the impact of our work in how it affects our co-members on a day-to-day basis. This can be seen nowhere more clearly than in the changes we have made for our trans and non-binary co-members. Over the past few years, we have created, as well as refined and updated a transitioning at work policy, providing support and guidance for transitioning co-members as well as their managers and teams. We have updated all of our policies to remove gendered language wherever possible and made sure to explicitly include co-members of all genders, ensuring we do not unintentionally exclude. I have seen the impact of this in the success of trans co-members who have come into their own both personally and professionally, particularly over the past year, in no small part due to being supported at work. This very direct and personal impact is probably my proudest achievement as a member of our working groups. #ImpactMatters #LifeAtReed #LGBTQ+ #NationalInclusionWeek
