The Power of Support As a mother of four and advocate for self-discovery and personal development, I, Nafisat, have always been driven to help others. But I knew I couldn't do it alone. I sought out mentors and an accountability partner to help me stay focused and motivated. With their guidance and support, I was able to create numerous workshops to empower women, write books that inspire and motivate, and launch the Mindful Drive community, a platform for women to connect, grow, and thrive. But that's not all. I also created a faith-based community for Muslim women, Muslimah's Hangout WhatsApp Group, which has been a safe haven for over five years. This support network has provided a judgment-free space for women to share their personal life experiences, receive guidance, and connect with others who share their values and beliefs. Through my journey, I've learned that seeking support is a sign of strength, not weakness. Having a tribe of mentors, accountability partners, and like-minded women has helped me stay on track, overcome obstacles, and achieve my goals. Remember, no one has to drive through life alone. Find those kinds of support systems that meet your needs, and don't hesitate to offer support when you can be a support system for others too. Last Monday, I made my first post on LinkedIn. Before joining WIBA (Women in Business Analysis), I didn't think it was necessary to share about myself, my career journey, or what I know. WIBA is a closed WhatsApp group where experienced women in business analysis and newcomers share insights. After joining WIBA, I participated in the 7-day LinkedIn challenge. If you're interested, connect with Joy Gerald and Dona S.. Through this challenge, I've learned a lot about how being consistent on LinkedIn can make you visible. Here are some lessons I've learned: ✍ You need support to grow: It's important to be part of communities and have mentors who can encourage and guide you. Surrounding yourself with people on a similar path makes the journey easier. ✍ You need to make yourself visible: Don't be afraid to share your ideas and experiences. People will notice you when you put yourself out there. ✍ Provide value: People always appreciate valuable insights and tips. By sharing your story and knowledge, you can learn from others too. ✍ There's a space for you: Don't think a space is too crowded for you to make an impact. Find your unique niche and share your perspective. ✍ Consistency matters: Posting consistently on LinkedIn has helped me grow. Even when I wasn't sure how my posts would be received, I kept going. Researching and learning from questions raised has been part of my growth journey. Overall, I'm evolving and moving forward. This is to celebrate my little win and to encourage myself to achieve even more. Leadership isn't restricted to corporates alone! It's applicable to our everyday life as well. Let me cite an example. I live in a 2-year old co-op society, where members continue to have difficulty coming on the same page. The modus operandi is to simply deny what the opposite person is saying even if it makes complete sense. Now when I look at it, I feel a lot of this is triggered by poor leadership. For example, every time a common issue pops up, the Society representatives take away attention from the on-going problem and start listing problems from the past. They get into arguments with flat owners. The Society WhatsApp group turns into an ugly battle. Outcome: The problem remains unresolved. Only if people in leadership could take a fair stand and work towards problem-solving, could the picture be something different. That makes me feel, life gives us opportunities every day! The spot in my office where I sit? It’s wherever my team needs me. The corporate structures need to change. In a world where leaders are often hidden behind closed doors, I’ve chosen to be out in the open. My number is in nearly every team WhatsApp group at our company. Traditional structures focus on efficiency, while flat organizations emphasize flexibility. But why not have both? 1. Problems get solved faster when anyone can reach out anytime. 2. When teams have direct access, they feel more confident. 3. Open communication builds a culture of trust. 4. In the age of the GenZ great ideas can come from anywhere, anytime. Being accessible doesn’t mean you’re available 24/7—it means being present when it counts. You don’t have to flatten your entire structure to be accessible. Keep necessary hierarchies but open up communication to foster innovation and trust. The key is to connect every single layer to every other layer above and below them in the hierarchy. For the longest time, I didn’t think my story mattered. Prior to two years ago, I kept it all to myself. All the different stages and phases of my struggles😩 I felt like I was really behind in life for everything, like there was nothing particularly special about the level I had reached. In my mind, I thought, "Who would want to hear this? How could my experiences possibly inspire anyone? But two years ago, I decided to take the leap. I began sharing my story, my challenges, my doubts, my small victories. To my surprise, people connected with it in ways I never imagined. Especially within my WhatsApp community which was of course where I started the message. People reached out, telling me they understood exactly where I was coming from. They related to my journey because they were going through the same thing, especially my academic journey. And they would love me to show them how I catalyzed my own dreams📌 My story, the one I thought was irrelevant, became a source of inspiration for others. That’s when it hit me; we never know who might need to hear our story. We often underestimate the power of our own journey, thinking it’s insignificant, when in fact, it could be exactly what someone else needs to hear. By opening up, we create space for others to feel seen, understood, and inspired. As for me, I will never stop sharing every story that makes me a 𝐃𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐦 𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐲𝐬𝐭 and more so, I will never stop training myself in every area that I need to, to enable me catalyze the dreams of other young women out here. So, I encourage you to share your story. Even if you think it doesn’t matter. Even if you believe it sounds irrelevant.
