As nations and regions introduce environmental reporting requirements, it can become complex and burdensome to monitor where new and existing reporting requirements exist, and whether any of your flights are subject to them. With 4AIR’s environmental regulatory monitoring and compliance program, we monitor your flying activity to alert you to potential compliance obligations and then provide a turnkey compliance package automatically.

EASA publihed today its second Opinion of 2024. https://lnkd.in/djXtQ6Eg This Opinion proposes to update the applicable environmental protection requirements for the certification of products in Regulations (EU) 2018/1139 and (EU) No 748/2012. Article 9(2) of Regulation (EU) 2018/1139, as amended by Regulation (EU) 2021/1087, sets out the essential requirements for environmental protection that refer to the requirements contained in Volumes I, II and III of Annex 16 ‘Environmental Protection’ to the Convention on International Civil Aviation. On 20 March 2023, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Council adopted new amendments to these volumes for the continuous improvement of the environmental protection standards and recommended practices (SARPs). The proposed regulatory material amends Article 9(2) of Regulation (EU) 2018/1139 to refer to these new amendments. The proposed updates to Annex I (Part 21) to Regulation (EU) No 748/2012 ensure the implementation of these amendments for the certification of products and clarify the applicable procedures for the environmental compatibility of the products. The proposed regulatory material will now be presented to the European Comission and Member States for its final adoption.

An aviation enthusiast with a strong focus on training, safety, security, network planning, sustainability, as well as airline and airport management.
ICAO Annex 16 consists of standards and recommended practices (SARPs) related to environmental protection in aviation. Volume I focuses on mitigating aircraft noise impacts, emphasizing measures such as noise certification standards, operating restrictions, and land use planning to minimize noise exposure in communities near airports. On the other hand, Volume II concentrates on controlling and reducing emissions from aircraft engines, setting standards for pollutants like NOx and CO while promoting alternative fuels and technologies. Together, these volumes play a pivotal role in promoting sustainable aviation practices by addressing key environmental challenges and fostering collaboration among aviation stakeholders and affected communities. #ICAO #Annex16 #AviationEnvironment #EnvironmentalProtection #AircraftEmissions #AviationRegulations. https://lnkd.in/ey8FwPDp

UK Director of Policy at the Association for Consultancy & Engineering (ACE) and the Environmental Industries Commission (EIC)
Members of the Environmental Industries Commission (EIC) , and many others interested in Air Quality are quite rightly raising concerns about this decision. Trying to improve a fund is one thing, but it’s another thing when local authorities, many of whom have been supported by EIC members, have invested time and public money to navigate the application process. Our response to the news, and letter to government, available to all in the link below ⬇️ #AirQuality #LocalGovernment #CleanAir #Funding
The UK Government has announced that £6m funding as part of the Local Air Quality Grant Scheme is to be withheld. The announcement has prompted significant concern among many of our Environmental Industries Commission (EIC) members. Local authorities, many of whom have been supported by EIC members, have invested time and public money to navigate the application process. Our CEO Kate Jennings and Sarah Horrocks from AtkinsRéalis, Chair of our Air Quality Taskforce, have written to the Minister on behalf of members. The Connection Between EMSA and PROMPT Here is the correlation of EMSA and PROMPT you might want to know! EMSA stands for the European Maritime Safety Agency. It's an EU agency based in Lisbon, Portugal, established in 2002. EMSA's primary mission is to ensure a high, uniform, and effective level of maritime safety, maritime security, prevention of and response to pollution by ships, and maritime environmental protection in European waters. It provides technical assistance and support to the European Commission and EU member states in implementing and enforcing EU maritime legislation and international maritime standards. EMSA also operates various monitoring and surveillance systems, offers training programs, conducts research, and facilitates cooperation among stakeholders to enhance maritime safety, security, and environmental protection across Europe. On the other hand, PROMPT is highly geared to complement the mission of EMSA in ensuring maritime safety, maritime security, prevention of, and response to pollution by ships along the Mediterranean seas and neighboring countries. PROMPT is tailored to combat sea pollution related to spills of oil and hazardous-noxious substances (HNS) that are primarily caused by ships during transportation. The intervention of PROMPT to achieve this goal is centered around extending the capabilities of the ICT tool/Environmental Decision Support System (EDSS) developed in the framework of the DG ECHO project Be-Ready which will help gather information and detect spills along the sea for a decisive decision to be taken, not only that but to develop an algorithm for automatically detect oil spills from satellite images to provide to the decision support system localization of the area interested by the spills, to develop an innovative algorithm able to track lost container in the sea and to train and transfer the knowledge that resides in the development of decision support system tool to the local operators of partners belonging to the European Neighbourhood Policy countries (Lebanon and Jordan).

Revision of the Flag State Requirements Directive - EU Legislation in Progress (Briefing) OVERVIEW On 1 June 2023, the Commission presented a maritime safety package, including a proposal on a revised directive for compliance with flag state requirements. Revision of the rules is needed to take account ofdigitalisation, improve inspections and cooperation between flag states, and align with international rules on safety, pollution prevention, and working conditions, by means of inspections and surveys. This is to ensure that EU flag states discharge their international law obligations. The current proposal would cover requirements for flag state inspections, based on International Maritime Organization (IMO) rules. The objective is to improve maritime safety and reduce the risk of environmental pollution, ensuring that EU flag states continue to provide high quality shipping services. The proposal facilitates information sharing between flag states on the results of inspections and compliance issues in general. The European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) is to support this cooperation through revised training programmesfor flag state inspectors. The European Parliament's Transport and Tourism Committee (TRAN) adopted its report on 7 December 2023. Following the approval of the mandate, Parliament is now ready to negotiate with the Council on the final wording of the text.

BEUC - The European Consumer Organisation recently published my study on the use of the term #SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuels) in commercial communications targeting European consumers. 💡SAF involve a range of important technologies that will help to decarbonise the ✈️aviation industry✈️. However, EU consumer law views SAF as an environmental claim and sets strict standards regarding the legality of such claims to prevent deception and #greenwashing 🤥 ✋The study finds that EU consumer law prohibits the general use of the term SAF in B2C commercial communications. The #RefuelAviationRegulation does not provide a safeguard here. Only in very limited circumstances the industry may lawfully use the term SAF in its marketing practices vis-a-vis consumers.⛽️ Find out more via https://lnkd.in/e7ujFVyq. Thanks to Blanca Morales, Alexandre Biard and Johnny White for helpful discussions.
