It’s encouraging to see so much awareness and people stepping forward to report cybercrimes. This shift is not traditional to Indian culture, where we’ve often had a culture of silence, with victims being told to adjust and not speak up. So, great progress is being made. However, this is just the beginning. Reporting is only 50% of the solution. The next crucial step is ensuring that justice is served. Having worked on the ground for over a decade and a half, I can say with confidence that this will be a challenging journey. It will require significant investment, widespread awareness, and, most importantly, collaboration among all stakeholders—a difficult but essential part of the process. At Social & Media Matters we’re committed to climbing this steep hill, ensuring that every case is not only reported but also resolved with the justice and support that victims deserve.

📉🗓️The #telcos and their troubled January 📉🗓️ 🚨In January of this year, a significant breach shook the Indian telecom sector, impacting millions of subscribers. According to CloudSEK, a cybersecurity firm, hackers allegedly sold a vast database containing sensitive information of 750 million Indian mobile consumers, including names, mobile numbers, addresses, and Aadhaar details. 🔍 CloudSEK's investigation pointed towards affiliates of CYBO CREW advertising this extensive database on the #darkweb , raising concerns about the vulnerability of personal data. Despite denials from the alleged hacker, CloudSEK has initiated responsible disclosure procedures, informing relevant authorities and affected organisations. 💼 While telecom operators suggest that the leaked data might comprise old datasets rather than a system vulnerability, the exposure of Personally Identifiable Information (PII) poses significant risks. Such breaches can lead to financial losses, identity theft, reputational damage, and increased susceptibility to #cyberattacks. 🛡️ From CloudSEK, emphasis is placed on the importance of validating and identifying security loopholes by both telecom service providers and the government. The verified sample provided by the threat actor confirms the association of mobile numbers with major Indian operators and the validity of Aadhaar numbers. 📢 It's crucial for individuals and organisations to remain vigilant and implement necessary precautions in response to this breach. Reinforcing #cybersecurity measures and addressing potential vulnerabilities are essential steps to mitigate risks and protect data integrity. #TelecomSecurity #InfoSec #DataProtection #CyberThreats #LinkedInNews #DigitalSecurity 🛡️🔒
