Where do I start?..... This game is Assassin's Creed: Freedom Cry. It was an awesome standalone game that was a spin on Assassin's Creed: Black Flag, and as a storyline game enthusiast, I couldn't wait to play it. The biggest reason was that it would be set in #Haiti, and feature my heritage. I was stoked! I got into the game and it was a visual historical masterpiece, and the gameplay was even better! HOWEVER! I was turned off by it when I heard the language of the locals. WHAT LANGUAGE WAS THAT?! It was not #Haitian Kreyol, not even a variation of it. Now, I understand if there was some of the old African language used but Ubisoft Ubisoft Montréal Ubisoft India Studios consulted a "cultural team" that gave you something lackluster. For this exact reason, I started 8th & Rolle Media, to make sure that Film, Video Games, and other media outlets highlight the language and culture of Haiti and Haitian Creole accurately. We specialize in helping tell the stories in the way it should be told. Big fan @Ubisoft, but I have to be honest. Love your games, let's work together to not repeat this mistake. Ubisoft goes to put out a product that completely thumbs its nose at #Japanese history and culture, claiming it is "historic". Players watch the videos, learn about the nonsense, and revolt, making videos mocking #Ubisoft for creating a nonsense version of revisionist history. Ubisoft claims that the players are racist because they have an African main character. One user on YouTube points out: They're using family crests they have to right to use They're using images of religious icons they have no right to use. Their time periods are all mixed up vis-a-vis armor and the like They're mixing #Japanese and #Chinese history and culture. They're misusing Shinto religious iconography Their game engine being used in the trailer videos contain numerous errors, such as floating assets, doors that hang in midair, bullets that hang in midair, changes from one scene to the next that don't match up, player sprites that meld into enemy sprites and more, able to make a 21(!) minute video covering all the mistakes in a 3:49 minute trailer Ubisoft now says that they're Appalled (per Stevy Chassard here on LinkedIn) that players are backlashing so hard against a company that does not obviously care about culture or history. They also now claim it's a "#fantasy" game, not historical. They're blaming people for wanting a good, stable, well-researched #game. This has been so badly mishandled that there are rumors of Ubi having to look to Tencent for a buyout because they're failing so badly at the one thing they were supposed to do well. And they're blaming the #gamers. Don't do this. If you mess up as a company, swallow your pride, take the hit, fix the issue and MAYBE salvage your reputation OR stick to your guns and go down in a ball of flames. Stop blaming the CUSTOMER for not buying your product when YOU are the one who should make sure it's appealing to them. #games #gaming #Ubisoft #AssassinsCreedShadows #failure #business

What’s going on with #Ubisoft? ❓ The pioneering company in the world of video games announced the delay of the new Assassin’s Creed Shadows to 2025. Why? #StarWarsOutlaws was released in September by the company waiting to be a success. Unfortunately, it has sold 1 million copies in a month, being a sales failure. Looking back, Assassin’s Creed Mirage sold 5 million copies three months after had hit de market this same year. 📈 Ubisoft has been focusing its efforts toward making more sequels of #AssassinsCreed repeating the same formula all over again through the years, forgetting the long term strategy. #MarketingMyopia 🔎 This delay of the last release of Assassin’s Creed has not an only answer. The low Punctuation on #Metacritic and the enormous expense that this last release has supposed for Ubisoft make them enforce aspects as historical and cultural environment, even changing parts of Yasuke’s history and his representation. Reports says even the developers told several times that the release date was too early. How will it end?🧐 #MarketingMyopia #Videogames #AssassinsCreed #Ubisoft

Metroidvania games have been around for decades, and their enduring popularity rests on a magical mix of satisfying platforming, interconnected levels, and non-linear exploration. Nothing beats the satisfaction of defeating a hard boss or reaching a level you couldn’t access before. But the interconnectivity and skills progression also make it a particularly challenging genre for devs to nail. Mission accomplished for the teams in Ubisoft Montpellier, Ubisoft Romania, Ubisoft Ukraine Studios, Ubisoft India Studios who succeeded in bringing together Metroidvania mechanics with the legendary world and gameplay of The Prince or Persia, and introduce some new features to make the genre more accessible. Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown should delight fans and newcomers alike!

Interesting insights about the masterbrand creation of Anno. More to unveil soon.
“There are so many different places that you can be inspired from - a lot of those shouldn’t exist solely on a screen, they should come from the real world and come from real life craft.” We immersed ourselves in tactile experiences throughout our recent partnership with Ubisoft to build the new Anno masterbrand. We delved into Roman history and had so much fun with Gate Foot Forge creating the new symbol from scratch using raw materials. Meticulous in detail and crafted with care, the new identity reflects the game’s ethos, community and creators, and we couldn’t be more proud of the result. Take a peek at the behind the scenes process. 👇 Wayne Deakin⚡️ Andy Khatouli Joe Waterfield Jamilya Kulambayeva Haye Anderson #Ubisoft #Gaming #Design

What's going on with Ubisoft? 🤔 First, we played the hell out of the early Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, and Tom Clancy games, and we still love them. 🎮❤️ We also appreciate the Metroidvania mastery behind the recent Prince of Persia game, and the tactical depth of the Mario + Rabbids series. 🎯👑 These games prove Ubisoft is still capable of delivering outstanding gaming experiences. But looking at recent events, things seem to be spiralling out of control. 😬 Star Wars: Outlaws isn't selling well, XDefiant is struggling with player retention, and the Assassin's Creed Shadows campaign is just a cringe-fest that entire nations now hate. 🤦♂️ We're still holding out hope that Ubisoft can turn things around and make some great games again. 🙏 But what do you think? Is there a way out for them? Will we ever see another good Assassin's Creed game? 🕵️♂️⚔️ Share your thoughts in the comments! 💬 #Ubisoft #GamingCommunity #AssassinsCreed #FarCry #TomClancy #PrinceOfPersia #MarioRabbids #StarWarsOutlaws #XDefiant #GamersUnite #GameDevelopment

Since the beginning of the year Ubisoft stock has lost more than half of its value. The turmoil set by Assassins Creed Shadow announcements and low figures for Star Wars Outlaw are quite alarming and pointing at the need of a structural change in the company’s approach to building and shipping AAA(A) games. Ubisoft is one of, if not simply the; architect of the open-world blueprint that shaped modern gaming. To me it is no debate that franchises like Assassin's Creed, and Far Cry helped define the standard of open world experiences, where players can explore vast environments filled with mercenary encampments, find collectibles, follow a story, all of that with a simple but rewarding core gameplay. This formula, pioneered with titles like Assassin's Creed II and Far Cry 3, became a standard in the industry, inspiring other developers and setting a gold standard for open-world game design for over a decade. Despte the varied universe and technical improvements now we see that releasing countless iterations with similar mechanics has led many players to feel fatigue. The Ubisoft AAA open world adventure blueprint was a recipe for success that used to be a sort of guarantee, it is now its biggest Achilles’ heel. Pipelines have been set to accommodate very large productions with multiple studios worldwide, very generous games often requiring heavy budgets and big returns. But today, departing away from that model seems complicated. What is easily overlooked though, is the ability of Ubisoft to innovate and captivate massive audience when tapping into other genres than open world adventure. Rayman alone is a legendary platformer IP, Rainbow Six longevity has shown Ubisoft ability to create high-standard competitive tactical shooter, and Just Dance became an instant cultural phenomenon that brought motion-controlled dancing into millions of households. It’s easy to point at Ubisoft for everything they do wrong, but I also think it's important to remember that its open-world approach is not the sum total of its abilities. Recent setbacks might be the push the company needs to reflect, and rediscover the creative edge that made it a landmark French studio I think the real challenge for legacy companies like Ubisoft isn’t just creating bigger and better worlds, it's about crafting experiences that feel fresh and rewarding. Innovation is not just about what's new, but about what feels different. #Ubisoft #Gaming #videogames #openworld #gamingindustry #games

France's Ubisoft pushes back new 'Assassin's Creed' game to February - https://lnkd.in/gpaFb6RU The latest instalment of the hugely popular "Assassin's Creed" video game series has been delayed to February instead of coming out in November as planned, its French publisher Ubisoft said. The company also warned that along with lower-than-expected sales for its "Star Wars Outlaws" released in late August, it would fail to meet its financial targets. "Assassin's Creed Shadows will now be released on February 14, 2025," Ubisoft said. "While the game is feature complete, the learnings from the Star Wars Outlaws release led us to provide additional time to further polish the title," requiring development teams to be "fully mobilized" on rolling out updates to the game. "Our second quarter performance fell short of our expectations, prompting us to address this swiftly and firmly, with an even greater focus on a player-centric, gameplay-first approach," co-founder and CEO Yves Guillemot said in the statement. The setbacks are the latest challenge for the French firm after slipping into the red in its 2022-2023 financial year before returning to profit last year. But it has already announced dozens of layoffs this year alone as it struggles with an industry-wide downturn. Ubisoft said it now expected net bookings, its preferred measure of sales excluding deferred revenues, of 350-370 million euros ($390-$410 million) in its second quarter, down from 500 million previously. © 2024 AFP Source
