PANELLING SYSTEMS (MAY 2014 Gautam Shah) https://lnkd.in/f9ipBQs Wainscots are like the extended skirting bends but also accommodated fixed furniture items like lower level cabinets, dressing units, secretary cabinets, chests and fireplaces. Wainscots were later extended a little beyond the top level of doors and windows and became panelling systems. The door or window lintel level panelling systems had top level continuous capping band. But unlike the skirting band, these were ‘wholly moulded and projecting out entities’. These top band were met by the curved down ceilings. Full wall panelling systems enforced a distinct regimen in Architectural designing and Interior space planning, as all the sizes had to be modulated. Window and Door placement had to be classical or formally balanced. These also forced designers to articulate and coordinate interiors and exteriors.

This sketch illustrates four different types of balconies, each with its own distinct architectural design: 1. Fully Recessed Balcony : This balcony is completely enclosed within the building's structure, creating a space that is open to the outside but still within the building's footprint. It is like a large window niche where people can step out. 2. Juliet Balcony: A very shallow balcony with a railing attached to the building's facade. There isn't much space to walk out onto; it's more of a decorative feature that allows for full-height doors from the interior. 3. Cantilever Balcony : This balcony protrudes from the building without visible supports from beneath. It is typically supported by cantilevered beams or brackets that transfer the load back into the structure. 4. Semi-Recessed Balcony : This type combines elements of the fully recessed and cantilevered designs. It is set into the building's facade but also sticks out slightly, usually supported from beneath or by the building's structure.

This is an interior staircase for access to a terrace in a Parisian apartment. Modern 3D modeling techniques were used to create a staircase without risers. The staircase had to be made of steel, which had to be plated. To ensure that the construction would be invisible, the marble-maker had to laser the base, then design each piece so that the design would follow on all sides, giving the impression of a single mass. A digital machine cut each listed piece from the marble block to achieve this result, which gives a classic impression. The walls of the room are painted in faux marble, while the floor is made in the same quality of marble, using two colors. A small staircase on a single floor can cost upwards of €100,000, such is the complexity of manufacture.

Each of these options can be tailored to suit your personal style and complement the overall design of your living room.

What is an Architrave? Found in most houses, an architrave (also sometimes referred to as mini skirting) is the strip of decorative moulding that sits over the edges of the wall around a door or window opening.   Architrave works to conceal the less visually appealing edges that often sit between the wall and the door or window opening, sealing the gap that’s left between these two structures. While the architrave itself has no structural purpose, it does ensure an aesthetically pleasing finish in any room by creating a streamlined look.
