It would be interesting to see what you all have to say. I want to continue using the knowledge I gained in my Master's and creating a new post every few weeks regarding topics relating to Public Administration and Public Policy. By doing so, we can learn from each other and become more aware. Below is the first go. The Importance of Public Policy in Shaping Society Public policies play a crucial role in addressing societal issues and shaping the future of our communities. How have you seen public policies make a positive impact in your community? Let's discuss the power of public policy in driving social change. #PublicPolicy #CommunityDevelopment

One of the most common things the Social Research Collective is asked to help out with is reviewing the literature on a topic, to make sure that organisations working for social justice have the most relevant and up-to-date knowledge to hand. For small organisations with limited time and budget, doing a literature review can feel daunting. I love helping out with these projects (get in touch if you'd like some support!), but I also wanted the Collective to be about democratising knowledge that's too often held onto within academia. So, one plan I have is making a series of videos demystifying what literature reviews are, why small organisations working for social justice might want to do one, and how to go about it. But before I start with that, I'd love some feedback! For people working for social justice (in any type of organisation or role) - would this be useful? What questions would you like me to answer? What other topics might it be useful for me to cover? Thank you so much for your help - and do get in touch if you have any social research needs - I would love to hear from you and help out however I can! https://lnkd.in/ecYSY2Gu

Much of the findings from this report re-iterate the work that we were progressing back in 2019-2023 through the Local Thriving Communities reforms. Deliberative & participatory processes work but only if they are backed up with meaningful accountability mechanisms and effective power sharing. #policy #innovation #reform #accountability #powersharing #Reframedrelationship #wellbeing

At Carnegie UK we have published the findings from our Engaging Democracy programme. This was a fascinating bit of work, with multiple strands of activity. Bit of a long post follows with key insights. We talked both to those that had recently commissioned and/or run participatory or deliberative democratic processes as well as those who had participated in them. We wanted to understand if and how these democratic innovations contribute to Democratic Wellbeing. What we found was really interesting. Deliberative and participatory initiatives can and do positively contribute to people feeling like they have voice and choice in the decisions that affect them. But (and this is the really important bit) only if they are designed well and backed up by meaningful accountability mechanisms. This can often be overlooked. To harness this and address these areas of concern, we want to ensure that policy makers working on these issues focus on: 1) Increasing the quality of participatory democracy by establishing minimum standards of delivery & accountability. 2) Build the democratic literacy of decision makers to help them to better share power with those working at the most local level. 3) Seize the major global moment for democracy in 2024 to focus on improving our Democratic Wellbeing (data shows us in a bad state). I want to say a huge thank you from all of us at Carnegie UK to all those we spoke to, to help inform this work. Both those that had commissioned or run these kinds of projects and former participants of them gave generously of their time, knowledge and experience. Finally, a big thank you to our brilliant Democratic Wellbeing Champions that helped inform this project and all the great organisations that continue to do vital work to develop, highlight and mainstream new approaches to improve our democracy. The biggest problem with public life today is how it is largely conducted behind closed doors. Decisions about the issues that affect our lives are being made by a small number of people in an even smaller number of institutions That isn’t good enough. Public life shouldn’t be something a few people practice and the rest of us try to influence. It should be a collective endeavour. That’s why our goal as Public Life is to build a movement of people and organisations, working together to reimagine public life across the UK. That starts with a shared belief – that those facing social issues should have the power to create the solutions they need. If you believe what we believe, join us. We're looking for pioneering organisations to work with us on programmes that empower people affected by social issues to invent the low-cost solutions they and their communities need. And we're looking for talented innovators to lead these programmes who are inspired by working at the forefront of public-led innovation. If that sounds like you, find out more and get in touch today at https://lnkd.in/ezza3QnU #publiclife #socialinnovation #community Dave Allan Sarah Weller Carolina Skoog Matt Black

From Social Security funding to the increasingly underutilized capacity of our nation's products and services, demographic shifts are creating serious problems that are disruptive in the sense that everything needs to steadily shrink its footprint as fewer and fewer clients, customers and workers is creating a seismic shift in the U.S. and other developed nations. o A smaller work force o Businesses face difficulties finding skilled workers, which could impact overall economic output o A shrinking tax base o Abandoned villages o An aging population o Negative implications for labor forces, economic growth, and social support systems https://lnkd.in/dkht2_fU
