"Schedule time for your future self." One of the most impactful things you can do for yourself during any conference, professional training, or fellowship is - set aside time for reflection and planning. It's easy to get caught up in the energy and excitement of the moment, but what truly matters is how you integrate those learnings once you're back in your daily routine. This was a key piece of advice from Rachel Lozano Castro during our conversation on how to maximize our time in California as part of the YTILI | Young Transatlantic Innovation Leaders Initiative. It really hit home for me because I often find myself so inspired by the connections I make and the ideas I encounter at these events. But, like many of us, the demands waiting back at the office often leave little room to pause and reflect. Rachel’s suggestion? Create space for your future self now. That means literally booking time in your calendar for when you return to: - Share what you’ve learned with others. - Reflect on the key takeaways and next steps. - Draft a plan to turn those insights into action, and share it with a person that will keep you accountable. This advice feels particularly valuable to me, and it’s something I’m committing to from now on. Thank you, Rachel, for this insight and all of your guidance! The Assembly Summit is back in the City of Detroit! Well, I don’t know, maybe it’s just me being more provocative than usual these days, but what should we expect from the TFWA World Conference, on its 40th anniversary, from the speeches of a former US Secretary of State, an anthropologist, and an astronaut (with all respect for them)? Aside from the buzz around their names or impressive titles (I'd be curious to know their fees), what are the expected takeaways that will truly enrich our experience? I’m probably wrong, but it seems like a lot of smoke and little substance to me. We, professionals in travel retail, are not exactly like schoolchildren on their first day, who can be mesmerised with a few cheap tricks. I don’t think I’ll spend my time listening to them on Monday. And it’s a shame because, personally, I’m always eager to enrich my professional knowledge. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: we’re getting nowhere like this. As an industry, we need far more inspiring ideas to move forward. Over the past three days, I had the incredible honour to join the Allianz International, a gathering of the top 195 leaders of Allianz. I am deeply humbled to have been invited to such a prestigious event. Oliver Bäte, our Group CEO, set the tone with a compelling strategy moving forward. We also heard from inspiring external speakers representing both traditional giants from the automobile and software industries, as well as innovative disruptors. Their insights continually inspire me to look beyond my own horizon. In addition, a true highlight for me was hearing from Gordon Brown, the former Prime Minister of the UK. This conference took place in a city very close to my heart – Berlin. Growing up in the Eastern part of Germany, not far away from Berlin, especially the area around the Brandenburger Tor, holds a special significance for me. The conference venue was at Pariser Platz, right next to this historic landmark. Despite having visited the Brandenburger Tor countless times, it never ceases to evoke a deep sense of history and reflection on Germany's past – the dark chapter of the Nazi regime, the divide, the tensions between the East and the West, and ultimately, the reunification. It is a poignant reminder of events that must never be repeated. As we just celebrated the 75th anniversary of the German Grundgesetz, the location felt even more meaningful.
